2. Industry profile
• 1850, the Board of the Directors of East India
Company allowed the construction of a telegraph
line between Calcutta and Diamond Harbor and
by 1851, the first telecommunication line was
opened for traffic. But, it was only for official use.
• The telegraph services were opened to the public
only in 1855.

• In 1986 Bombay and Delhi Telephones were
separated to create the new entity called
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL).
• Presently indian telecom network has 926.55
million connections.

on 15th September 2000 .
• It is one of the largest & leading public sector
units providing comprehensive range of
telecom services in India.
• BSNL has 90.09 million cellular & 5.06 million
WLL customers as on 31.07.2011
5. • The BSNL Karnataka takes 5th position in turn
of its size among the Telecom Circles.
• Under Karnataka Telecom Circle, there are
altogether 19 Telecom Districts covering area
of about 1.92 lakhs of kilometers and serving
53 million people through 2610 telephone
exchanges all over the state

• A mobile phone (also known as a cellular
phone, cell phone and a hand phone) is a
device that can make and receive telephone
calls over a radio link while moving around a
wide geographic area.

small microchip called a Subscriber Identity
Module or SIM card

The majority of individuals use BSNL
mobile service that is 45 members out of 100
members use BSNL mobile service

The 55% of respondents were using other mobile
service earlier and now they are migrated to BSNL by
knowing the importance and the quality of service
provided by BSNL

• From the survey it is found that BSNL has 45% of
market share in mobility services.
• 55% of respondents were using other mobile
service earlier and now they are migrated to
BSNL by knowing the importance and the quality
of service provided by BSNL.
• From the survey it is concluded that most of the
customers are satisfied with BSNL network
compared to others.
• Most of the customers rated BSNL service as
excellent as compared to other private players.

• Company can introduce new value added services
to existing customers as well as potential
customers.
• Company has to adopt effective marketing
strategies to gain market leadership
• The company has to endorse a celebrity for
promoting products
• Company has to give more stress on
advertisement and campaigns on different
medias
13. conclusion
• The situation has become a nightmare for all services
providers. As TRAI has given mobile number portable
opportunity to the subscribers if any of the company is not
giving good services to the customers, chances of the losing
the customers as they will switch over to other brands, so a
mobility service provider should concentrate on delighting
their customer at every step in the market.
• BSNL being a public sector undertaking also facing the
tough competition by private player’s inspite of having
good brand name, company has to consider the situation
seriously and have to take effective decision to retain
customers as well as to attract new customers.
