WHO Global Network of
      Age-friendly Cities and Communities

1| Lisa WARTH | Department of Ageing and Life Course
Imagine a Community…
Where older people are valued
as a resource and a source of
   wisdom. A place where all
generations live better lives and
 with greater connectedness.
A place that is welcoming and
that recognizes the needs of all
            people.
Cities and communities around the
world are striving to make this world
their reality. Large and small, urban
and rural—communities of all cultures
are finding creative ways to respond
to the needs of their older residents.
Each community is unique.
What does an age-friendly
 community look like?
PHYSICALLY ACCESSIBLE
Creating communities that have safe
and welcoming outdoor areas, bright living
     spaces near accessible shops and
restaurants, and that allow people of all
abilities to fully engage is vital. Age-friendly
places encourage healthy living and well-
being in all dimensions of life.
Providing safe places for people to
meet and mingle. Giving older people a
voice in local affairs and government.
Letting them know they are appreciated and
loved. Acknowledging their contributions as
          valuable and necessary.
