DEE2213 / DAE21503 Computer Aided Design

                                    Project (20%)


This is a group project consists of 3 assigned group members.

1. Design a battery operated LED/Alarm switching circuit uses a relay. The
   switching mechanism is triggered by either:

           a.   Light
           b.   Touch
           c.   Magnetic
           d.   Water

   The switching circuit must have at least ten (10) components excluding connector.

2. Create a single sided printed circuit board. Fabrication of PCB can be with the
   aid of Eagle Cadsoft and AutoCAD software only.
           a. Some parts must be custom made according to parts used.
           b. All external connections (battery, buzzer or lamp) must be made thru
              connector (screw type connector).
           c. All parts must be fully seated on its footprint (footprint must conform
              to its physical part).
           d. Get (buy) the actual part before designing the PCB to ensure all part is
              assigned to its proper footprint.
           e. The fabricated PCB must use copper pouring (copper plane) for ground
              routing; various track width (to indicate route function) and labelling.
           f. Design with the most minimal space (must less than 3 X 3 inches)
              and attractive components layout.

3. The fabricated printed circuit board must be tested using oscilloscope or
   multimeter to ensure the operational of the circuit. Collective data (printed data)
   form oscilloscope must be compared with the simulation result.

4. The circuit can be simulated using PSpice, MultiSim or Proteus.

5. All simulations data and equivalent circuits must be printed out; analysis and
   discussion must be handwritten, printed analysis or discussion is not acceptable.

6. Report can be written in proper English or Malay. Report writing must be in full
   sentences, short form expression is considered as improper writing.

7. Use the cover page given.
There are two (2) reports to be submitted.

1. Seminar paper; submitted during presentation on 22 & 24 March 2011. The
   contents of seminar paper must have:

           a. The proposal of assigned project that include
                   i. introduction,
                   ii. circuit operation and
                   iii. resistive representation of trigger mechanism.
           b. Simulation result/data that emulate the circuit function. Non supported
              component must be replaced to emulate the actual component and
              explained.
           c. Discussion that compare simulation result with actual circuit behaviour
              from (a).

   Each group member must participate during presentation.

2. Final report: submitted before 15 April 2011. The content of final report must
   consists of:

           a. PCB design:
                    i. printed schematic drawing,
                    ii. printed PCB layout (print board outline, copper bottom and
                         component layout in a different page),
                    iii. the actual PCB film and
                    iv. the finished PCB with soldered components.
           b. Analysis:
                    i. result/data from finished product using oscilloscope or
                         multimeter,
                    ii. compared the actual result with simulated result from 1(b).
           c. Conclusion:
                    i. pcb design (based on given project topics; what have been
                         learnt thru project)
           d. (b) and (c) must be handwritten.
