Yes, there are companies and individuals that subscribe to a ‘win-loose’ approach where their goal is to ‘win’ at all costs and secure the quick Hit, Sale, or Gain, yet if the customer or constituent does not realize a ‘win’ as well the chance for a long-term and positive relationship is slim. The true power or value of Information Technology Systems and related Information Management Solutions is NOT necessarily the technology or bells and whistles. But rather what decisions you make with this Information and allow the relevant information to be accessible to the end-users or consumers without redundant hurdles, etc. If only focusing on today’s margin or today’s expense control emergency, the product and/or service’s lifecycle is limited, and thus the market relevance will not survive. A balance should be pursued to be fiscally sound AND operationally sensitive to the real-world (i.e., must recognize that marketing is the first step to engage a sales opportunity and thus should have strategic focus and monies dedicated to such endeavors)… (increasing staff competencies and cross-training but not expecting staff to reach 150% productivity or handle too many roles). Each of us are interacting every day with internal and external stakeholders and thus are in essence ‘selling’ or ‘educating’ all the time. Recognize these opportunities to strengthen the entire operation. 8. While today’s immediate access to digital and/or electronic communication devices has merit, this reliance can de-value the critical human interaction factors that are the cornerstone of building long-term relationships.
