2. Fundamentals of WiMAX : understanding broadband
4 wireless networking / Jeffrey G. Andrews,
Arunabha Ghosh, Rias Muhamed
- This book on WiMax as a reference for designing WiMax radios.
Trying to understand WiMax by reading the IEEE 802.16, 16e
standards is difficult. The original 802.16-2004 standard was
organized in a convoluted way. On top of that there were
numerous errors, even in the mathematical formula and the
critical system parameters. 16e was written as a errata and
addendum to .16. Given the amount of major changes required
by .16e, this format of a .16+.16e makes it almost impossible to
read to gain engineering understanding.

one-
The one-page project manager for execution : drive
6 strategy & solve problems with a single sheet of
paper / Clark A. Campbell ; with Mike Collins.
- Set a new standard as an understandable and easy-to-apply
organizational tool, allowing managers to summarize complex
projects on a single information-rich page. This book, third in
the OPPM series, describes how to combine the OPPM with the
Toyota A3 report to create an enhanced, integrated
management tool. With a refreshingly clear style, the authors
walk users through implementing the OPPM/A3 using a variety
of real-world case studies, as well as their own experience at
O.C. Tanner Company. Rich with tools, templates, and teaching,
the emphasis throughout remains on maintaining simplicity
across the organization—communicating the right information
to the right people at the right time to get the right things done.

3. The art of strategy: a game theorist's guide to
7 success
success in business & life / Avinash K. Dixit, Barry
J. Nalebuff.
- It is an easy read and is written in a lively tone-which is not
something I particularly recall from my lectures in the 1980s.
Long live economics!" John Burns, The Times Higher Education
"Unlike most of the ranks of management advice books which
pad out bookshop business sections, here is one which is
rigorous, fun and extremely useful all at the same time

What functional managers need to know about
8 project
project management / Harold Kerzner, Frank
Saladis.
- As a functional manager today, you need to become more
involved in project management. That doesn't mean you need
to become a project manager, but rather you need to know
how to perform specific project-related tasks, work with project
team members, understand each other's priorities and
problems, and resolve issues jointly. Now here's the book that
gives you everything you need to know about your role in
project management clearly and succinctly

Building on knowledge : developing expertise,
9 creativity and intellectual capital in the
construction professions / David Bartholomew.
- This guide shows design practices and other construction
professionals how to manage knowledge successfully. It
explains how to develop and implement a knowledge
management strategy, and how to avoid the pitfalls, focusing
on the techniques of learning and knowledge sharing that are
most relevant in professional practice. Expensive IT-based
'solutions' bought off-the-shelf rarely succeed in a practice
context, so the emphasis here is on people-centred techniques,
which recognise and meet real business knowledge needs and
fit in with the organisational culture.

4. Cold and hot forging : fundamentals and
10 applications / edited by Taylan Altan, Gracious
Ngaile, Gangshu Shen.
- My field of work is impact extrusion of aluminum and this
book verified what we were doing and gave some new ideas for
the cold and hot forging of aluminum. I would recommend this
book to anybody who works in cold or hot forging. It's a book
any business involved in the field of forging needs to have on
hand.

foundation
Work breakdown structures : the foundation for
11 project management excellence / Eric S. Norman,
Shelly A. Brotherton, Robert T. Fried.
- This book is written for everyone responsible for project
management or product development work. The topic of the
book is a critically useful and important technique for
describing and understanding any new product or project
development. I applaud the efforts of the authors in showing
not just the relevance of a WBS (Work Breakdown Structures)
and WBS dictionary to planning a project but also to its
execution. A significant contribution of this book is the
prominent highlighting the scope of the project management
function itself as one of the deliverables in the WBS.

Principles of building commissioning / Walter T.
13 Grondzik.
- Savvy building owners have adopted commissioning as an
effective way to improve the facility acquisition process. Green
building initiatives have embraced commissioning as a way of
assuring quality in the delivery of high-performance buildings.
This long-established quality control process for building
mechanical systems is emerging as a broader construction
management tool improving nearly all aspects of a project.

5. Liquidated damages and extensions of time in
14 construction contracts / Brian Eggleston.
- Liquidated damages and extensions of time frequently form
the basis of contract claims made under standard building and
civil-engineering contracts. This book, which was very well
received in its first edition, covers legal principles and examines
in depth the relevant clauses of standard construction
contracts. This second edition includes a number of new
contracts (including the new Engineering Contract) as well as
recent court decisions

Multi-carrier and spread spectrum systems : from
Multi-
15 MC-
OFDM and MC-CDMA to LTE and WiMAX / K. Fazel
and S. Kaiser.
- The technological progress in multi-carrier (MC) modulation
led orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to
become an important part of beyond 3G cellular mobile
communication standards, including LTE and WiMAX. In
addition, the flexibility offered by the spread spectrum (SS) and
time division multiplexing (TDM) techniques motivated many
researchers to investigate several MC combined multiple access
schemes, such as MC-CDMA, OFDMA and MC-TDMA. These
schemes benefit from the advantages of each sub-system and
offer high flexibility, high spectral efficiency, simple detection
strategies and narrow-band interference rejection capability

Construction safety management / Tim Howarth
16 and Paul Watson.
- This dynamic and innovative industry is faced with safety
challenges on a project by project and day to day basis.
Excellence in Health and safety management is therefore a key
requirement of construction industry professional practice, and
as such its study is a necessary and core component of a wide
range of built environment undergraduate degree programmes,
either as a distinct discipline or as an embedded component.

6. Building maintenance / Brian Wood.
17 - Building Care encompasses everything from maintenance to
energy conservation. But even though premises-related
expenditure typically represents 15% of the running costs of a
business, maintenance is still regarded as the 'Cinderella' of the
construction industry. Building Care challenges this attitude by
elevating maintenance to its proper professional level and
explaining new ideas in clear, understandable terms. Practical
guidance is offered to those responsible for running buildings -
surveyors, facility managers and facility managers - to help
them carry out efficient and effective building care services.
Brian Wood reflects the move away from long-term,
technology-based maintenance programmes to more customer-
focussed practices and covers a range of alternative approaches
to looking after buildings and their users

formulation, methodologies, and methods specifically for
construction students.

Principles of modern manufacturing / Mikell P.
19 Groover.
- Engineers rely on Groover because of the book's quantitative
and engineering-oriented approach that provides more
equations and numerical problem exercises. The fourth edition
introduces more modern topics, including new materials,
processes and systems. End of chapter problems are also
thoroughly revised to make the material more relevant. Several
figures have been enhanced to significantly improve the quality
of artwork. All of these changes will help engineers better
understand the topic and how to apply it in the field.
