Data providers
7. • Genesys aggregates data without alteration.
• Tool to validate coordinates and scientific names
https://validator.genesys-pgr.org/
• Passport Data Completeness Index (PDCI)
Data validation
8. Partners
• WorldVeg (Taiwan), CATIE (Costa Rica), GeRRI (Kenya), BNG
(Tunisia), NPGRL (Philippines), MARDI (Malaysia).
Expected outcomes
• Partners establish written procedures, develop and test checklists
for data publication.
• Genesys Catalog infrastructure developed, tested and established.
• Characterization and evaluation datasets (and
metadata) are integrated and visible through the
Catalog.
Genesys Catalog
9. Advantages of using
Genesys
Internally
• Establish written data management
procedures.
• Organize internal documentation
workflows.
• Preserve data and prevent data loss.
• Give context to characterization and
evaluation data (who, what, where,
when, how).
• Improved access by clients.
• Improve identification of germplasm for
breeding.
• Increase use of accessions.
• Data reuse: further research, teaching,
planning.
• Use of attractive and user friendly portal.
• Reduced costs (portal development,
maintenance and hosting).
• Germplasm ordering functionality.
10. Use Module
• DOIs implementation (GLIS).
• Interoperability with other systems (BrAPI – Excellence in
Breeding Platform).
• Active participation of CGIAR community:
– Data maintenance (frequent updates).
– Development of visualization tools.
– Subsets creation to better answer germplasm user needs.
12. Several options to publish data:
API
Standalone tool for Windows and OS X
GRIN-Global
Genesys Helpdesk (helpdesk@genesys-pgr.org)
National Focal Points (NFPs) may use Genesys to report on the
implementation of the Second GPA. By publishing collection data on
Genesys the NFPs do not have to submit accession-level passport data again
to FAO. FAO should be informed accordingly (WIEWS@fao.org)

Updates in time
This includes new data and improvements to existing data. We receive information from both CGIAR genebanks and national genebanks. National genebank information is largely provided through networks like EURISCO and USDA-ARS NPGS. Other national genebanks submit their data individually.
