23 Things: Online Training for Social Media and Public Health

    Background
    The Council of Linkages’ Core Competencies for Public Health
    Professionals includes competencies for communication skills,
    emphasizing the need for public health professionals to “utilize a
    variety of approaches to disseminate public health information”
    with stated examples including social networks and blogs 1 .

    The Public Health Workforce Study by HRSA describes a
    workforce that lacks formal training in public health and a need for
    distance learning opportunities 2.
