3. History
The origin of the name of Nicaragua is not entirely clear, and still
divides historians and scholars of language. One version comes
from the Nahuatl nic-Anahuac, another version, considered a voice
coming from maya. There is also, among others, the most
widespread version but also the least supported by experts,
according to which the name "Nicaragua" is derived from the name
of Nicarao, who was allegedly the leader of the indigenous
population who received the first conquerors Spanish on the
shores of Lake Cocibolca current, Granada or Great Lake, which Gil
Gonzalez Davila called "freshwater Sea".

4. independence from Spain.
Nicaragua was part of the Spanish Captaincy General of
Guatemala, which included the territory from Costa Rica
to the current Chiapas, Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. In
South America, and for a period in Mexico, mestizos

crown to achieve independence. But in Central America
the situation was differen.

5. Geopraphy and climate
Nicaragua occupies a landmass of 130,967 km2 (50,567 sq mi), comparable to that of Greece or
the state of Alabama. It lies between latitudes 10° and 15°N, and longitudes 82° and 88°W.
Nearly one fifth of the territory is designated as protected areas like national parks, nature
reserves, and biological reserves. The country is bordered by Honduras to the north, the
Caribbean to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Geophysically,
Nicaragua is surrounded by the Caribbean Plate, an oceanic tectonic plate underlying Central
America and the Cocos Plate. Since Central America is a major subduction zone, Nicaragua hosts
most of the Central American Volcanic Arc.
Nicaragua has three distinct geographical regions: the Pacific lowlands, fertile valleys which the
Spanish colonists settled, the Amerrisque Mountains (North-central highlands), and the Mosquito
Coast (Atlantic lowlands). The low plains of the Atlantic Coast are 60 miles wide in areas. They
have long been exploited for their natural resources..

birds, 640 species of fish. All these species are

The tropical forest of conifers occurs in the RAAN. It is characterized by the
presence of various trees typical of the Nearctic, such as pine. There are also
some species of mammals such as deer and coyotes.
Savannas occur across the country and the vegetation varies by region. Thus in
the RAAN is covered with pine savannas and savannas there Rivas species
