Today 3D objects have become widely available in different application domains, thus it is becoming fundamental to use, integrate and develop techniques for extracting and maintaining their implicit knowledge. These techniques should be encapsulated in intelligent systems able to semantically annotate the 3D models, thus improving their usability and indexing, especially in innovative web cooperative environments. In our work, we are moving in this direction, by defining and developing data structures, methods and interfaces for structuring and semantically annotating 3D complex models (and scenes), even changing over time, according to ontology-driven metadata. In this paper, we focus on tools and methods for manually segmenting manifold 3D models and on the underline structural representation that we build and manipulate. We present also an interface from which the user can inspect and browse the segmentation, describing also the first prototype of an annotation tool which allows a hierarchical semantic-driven tagging of the segmented model.

Many organisations are currently moving their legacy systems to the cloud as it offers reduced cost, improved operational efficiency, on-demand, and pay-as-you-go service models. While any cloud migration scenario to make legacies cloud-enabled may have their own characteristics, there is no universally superior or applicable method for all scenarios. In situations like this, designing customization methods that fit characteristics of migration scenarios would be pivotal for successful adoption of cloud computing. The literature review reveals that issues surrounding method tailoring for the cloud migration have so far been missing and this is despite the call made by previous researches to adopt a tailoring perspective to the cloud enablement. To effectively address this shortcoming, this study applied the idea of situational method engineering to develop a framework which facilitates the design and maintenance of bespoke cloud migration methods. The paper demonstrates the applicability of the proposed framework via presenting two scenarios.

We propose a novel approach to consumer application development using executable Application Graph Model (AGM). Based on Object- Process Methodology (OPM), AGM has expressive nature to model a generic, data-centric application based on desired domain model. AGM is interpretative, not generative, and also reflective, which enables runtime modeling and production on the same execution environment. AGM contains every aspect of data-centric application: data persistence, business logic, user interface and actors in interaction with application, both human and non-human. Finally, an executing architecture is given supporting multi- platform execution across mobile and desktop devices.

In developing any engineering product, it is crucial to develop product architecture of the system. An engineering team who responsible in developing different module should work together in order to obtain product architecture as a blueprint of the project. It is common to breakdown system or product into smaller elements as follows: subsystems, modules and component and define the interactions between components and subsystems. In order to achieve the performance of the system as a whole, these elements must be integrated to work together. One of the method to develop product architecture is Design Structure Matrix (DSM). The use of DSM for Development of Product architecture with case study a CNC router platform is presented. Using DSM, order of product development can be optimized and any form of wastes can be eliminated in the design stage.

Nowadays three dimension (3D) architectural visualisation has become a powerful tool in the conceptualisation, design and presentation of architectural products in the construction industry, providing realistic interaction and walkthrough on engineering products. Traditional ways of implementing 3D models involves the use of specialised 3D authoring tools along with skilled 3D designers with blueprints of the model and this is a slow and laborious process. The aim of this paper is to automate this process by simply analyzing the blueprint document and generating the 3D scene automatically. For this purpose we have devised a 3-Phase recognition approach to pseudo 3D building generation from 2D floor plan and developed a software accordingly.

Semantic-based interoperability based on ontologies provide an alternative to centralized stand-ard data models. They help to integrate heterogeneous data produced by loose coupled information systems and to interlink these data with different tools in ad hoc situations. In the SEMANCO project (www.semanco-project.eu) we have used semantic technologies to create energy models of urban areas encompassing a variety of data sources and do-mains (building, geospatial, energy, climate, socioeconomic). The semantically modelled data has been made accessible to a set of simulation and analysis tools. The interoperability among the data sources and between these and the tools that interact with them is assured by a Semantic Energy Information Framework (SEIF) developed in the project. The access to the data and tools takes place in the SEMANCO integrated platform. In this paper we describe the work carried out to integrate an existing simulation software –URSOS– with the semantic data model. The functionalities of the tool and the integrated platform have been demonstrated in an application case carried out in the city of Manresa, in Spain

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system.
