I Corinthians 14:37-38 God does not want us to be ignorant of concern for others, God's righteousness, the hardening of Israel, the possibility of our falling, spiritual gifts, what others do for us, Satan's Devices, the resurrection.
2. 1 Corinthians 14:37-38 If anyone thinks himself
to be a prophet or spiritual, let him
acknowledge that the things which I write to
you are the commandments of the Lord. (38)
But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
3.
4. IGNORANCE
A. Num 15:22-29 'If you sin unintentionally, and do not
observe all these commandments which the LORD has
spoken to Moses; (23) 'all that the LORD has
commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day
the LORD gave commandment and onward throughout
your generations; (24) 'then it will be, if it is
unintentionally committed, without the knowledge of
the congregation, that the whole congregation shall
offer one young bull as a burnt offering, as a sweet
aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and its drink
offering, according to the ordinance, and one kid of the
goats as a sin offering. (25) 'So the priest shall make
atonement for the whole congregation of the children
of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them, for it was
unintentional; they shall bring their offering, an offering
made by fire to the LORD, and their sin offering before
the LORD, for their unintended sin. >>>
5. IGNORANCE
(26) 'It shall be forgiven the whole congregation of
the children of Israel and the stranger who dwells
among them, because all the people did it
unintentionally. (27) 'And if a person sins
unintentionally, then he shall bring a female goat in
its first year as a sin offering. (28) 'So the priest
shall make atonement for the person who sins
unintentionally, when he sins unintentionally
before the LORD, to make atonement for him; and
it shall be forgiven him. (29) 'You shall have one law
for him who sins unintentionally, for him who is
native-born among the children of Israel and for
the stranger who dwells among them.
6. IGNORANCE
B Acts 17:30-31 Truly, these times of ignorance God
overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to
repent, (31) because He has appointed a day on which
He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man
whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this
to all by raising Him from the dead."
C. Eph 4:17-19 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord,
that you should no longer walk as the rest of the
Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, (18) having
their understanding darkened, being alienated from the
life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them,
because of the blindness of their heart; (19) who, being
past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness,
to work all uncleanness with greediness.
7. IGNORANCE
D. 1 Pet 1:14-16 as obedient children, not
conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in
your ignorance; (15) but as He who called you is
holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, (16)
because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy.”
E. IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS.
F. WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW WILL HURT YOU.
8.
9. I. IGNORANT OF CONCERN FOR OTHERS.
Rom 1:13-17 Now I do not want you to be unaware,
brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was
hindered until now), that I might have some fruit
among you also, just as among the other Gentiles. (14)
I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both
to wise and to unwise. (15) So, as much as is in me, I
am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome
also. (16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone
who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
(17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from
faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by
faith.”
10. II. IGNORANT OF GOD'S
RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Romans 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire and
prayer to God for Israel is that they may be
saved. (2) For I bear them witness that they
have a zeal for God, but not according to
knowledge. (3) For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and seeking to establish their
own righteousness, have not submitted to the
righteousness of God.
11. III. IGNORANT OF THE HARDENING OF ISRAEL
Romans 11:25-32 For I do not desire, brethren, that you
should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in
your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to
Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. (26) And
so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will
come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from
Jacob; (27) For this is My covenant with them, When I take
away their sins." (28) Concerning the gospel they are
enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are
beloved for the sake of the fathers. (29) For the gifts and the
calling of God are irrevocable. (30) For as you were once
disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through
their disobedience, (31) even so these also have now been
disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also
may obtain mercy. (32) For God has committed them all to
disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
12. IV. IGNORANT OF THE POSSIBILITY OF OUR FALLING
1 Corinthians 10:1-13 Moreover, brethren, I do not
want you to be unaware that all our fathers were
under the cloud, all passed through the sea, (2) all
were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
(3) all ate the same spiritual food, (4) and all drank the
same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. (5)
But with most of them God was not well pleased, for
their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. (6) Now
these things became our examples, to the intent that
we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
(7) And do not become idolaters as were some of
them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and
drink, and rose up to play.“>>>
13. IV. IGNORANT OF THE POSSIBILITY OF OUR FALLING
(8) Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of
them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;
(9) nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also
tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; (10) nor
complain, as some of them also complained, and were
destroyed by the destroyer. (11) Now all these things
happened to them as examples, and they were written
for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages
have come. (12) Therefore let him who thinks he
stands take heed lest he fall. (13) No temptation has
overtaken you except such as is common to man; but
God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with the temptation
will also make the way of escape, that you may be able
to bear it.
14. V. IGNORANT ABOUT SPIRITUAL GIFTS
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Now concerning spiritual
gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: (2)
You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to
these dumb idols, however you were led. (3)
Therefore I make known to you that no one
speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed,
and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the
Holy Spirit. (4) There are diversities of gifts, but the
same Spirit. (5) There are differences of ministries,
but the same Lord. (6) And there are diversities of
activities, but it is the same God who works all in
all. >>>
15. V. IGNORANT ABOUT SPIRITUAL GIFTS
(7) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to
each one for the profit of all: (8) for to one is given
the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another
the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, (9)
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts
of healings by the same Spirit, (10) to another the
working of miracles, to another prophecy, to
another discerning of spirits, to another different
kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of
tongues. (11) But one and the same Spirit works all
these things, distributing to each one individually
as He wills.
16. VI. IGNORANT OF WHAT OTHERS DO FOR US
2 Corinthians 1:8-11 For we do not want you to be
ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us
in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure,
above strength, so that we despaired even of life.
(9) Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves,
that we should not trust in ourselves but in God
who raises the dead, (10) who delivered us from so
great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we
trust that He will still deliver us, (11) you also
helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may
be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift
granted to us through many.
17. VII. IGNORANT OF SATAN’S DEVICES
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 Now whom you forgive
anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have
forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for
your sakes in the presence of Christ, (11) lest
Satan should take advantage of us; for we are
not ignorant of his devices.
18. VIII. IGNORANT OF THE RESURRECTION
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I do not want you to be
ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep,
lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. (14) For if we
believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring
with Him those who sleep in Jesus. (15) For this we say to
you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and
remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means
precede those who are asleep. (16) For the Lord Himself will
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an
archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in
Christ will rise first. (17) Then we who are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet
the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the
Lord. (18) Therefore comfort one another with these words.
19. YOUR IGNORANCE?
A. Have you been ignorant of God’s will in your
life in the past?
B. Will you obey His will, now that you know
it?
C. God will not overlook your sins today.
D. You must repent of your sins.
E. If you have not been baptized to have your
sins washed away you need to do that also.
