An American icon since 1946, Hot Dog on a Stick began as an entrepreneurial dream on the beaches of Southern California, and has flourished into an organization of over 80 stores throughout the country and internationally.
Dave Barham opened his first store in 1946 on the beach in Santa Monica, and the location was originally called Party Puffs. This original location changed to Hot Dog on a Stick, and is still selling sizzling hot dog on a stick and fresh, delicious lemonade to beachgoers today.
In 1972 the first Hot Dog on a Stick mall location opened in Redondo Beach, California. Salt Lake City, Utah came next in 1973. Within eleven years, there were over 25 stores in nine different states. This growth has continued all over the United States, from Hawaii and Alaska to New Mexico. Hot Dog on a Stick is now an incredible organization serving customers with more than 80 locations, including international and domestic franchises. Even though our menu has expanded, we are still selling Dave’s famous hot dog on stick, and delicious fresh lemonade!
Hot Dog on a Stick is a unique offering, with flavorful all-American cuisine served by smiling faces. Our memorable brand creates a fun, engaging experience that reinforces our fast service and quality products in a convenient and affordable way. We use the finest ingredients –to deliver a delicious meal and an excellent value for the whole family.
When founder Dave Barham passed away in 1991, he left 100% of this unique company to his employees. On June 18, 1991 Hot Dog on a Stick officially became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Dave believed the people working for him made this company what it was. This is his greatest gift to his employees! The company was employee owned from 1991 until August 2014, when it was acquired by Global Franchise Group (GFG), LLC. GFG is a strategic brand management company and franchisor of Great American Cookies®, Pretzelmaker®, Marble Slab Creamery®, and MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery®.
Hot Dog on a Stick employees proudly wear Dave’s trademark uniforms and continue to follow his mission, “To serve the highest quality product, by the friendliest employees, to the greatest number of people”.
