imperative to look for ways to develop communication using
non-verbal ways such as signing or using an AAC system.

Core Vocabulary
Core vocabulary is a small set of simple words, in
any language, that are used frequently and across
contexts. Approximately 80% of the words in a
sample of 100 total words will be core, but many
of the core words will be used repeatedly, so the
number of different words is small.
