MTN FAQs
Whatâs the âBig Ideaâ behind MyTeam Network (MTN)?
MyTeam Network (MTN) takes networking into the space between meetings
- because far too many networkers do nothing apart from go to events. We
provide a structure for you to network in-between meetings to build good
relationships with fellow local business people, and help to grow and
develop each otherâs businesses. MTN gives networkers âcolleaguesâ!
Does MTN compete with other networks?
No. MTN doesnât replace your existing networking â it enhances it. We all
network elsewhere, and pool our resources, because weâre a Team.
Whoâs it for?
Business people who understand (or want to discover) the power of face-to-
face networking. Men and women are equally welcome, and thereâs no
exclusivity of trade or profession. Itâs âjoined-up networking for grown-
upsâ!
When & where (and How long) are MTN meetings?
MTN meetings are fortnightly - or more accurately, on the same day two
weeks apart, twice a month â for example, on the first and third Tuesday,
making it easy to plan them in the diary. MTN Meetings will initially be held
at lunchtime, but could actually be at any time a TeamLeader chooses (and
TeamMembers want them to be).
Time: Lunchtime was chosen for the launch group because:
⢠traffic is lighter outside the rush hour (shorter journey times, less
stress)
⢠you would probably be taking a lunch break anyway, so your time is
productively used

⢠it doesnât clash with breakfast, coffee-time or evening groups (which
together account for 90% of all networking)
Venue: The launch group venue is a pub restaurant (Chef & Brewer) where
we can find a corner in the public areas â so no need to book the venue or
catering (if you have to âno-showâ at the last minute, no problem!)
⢠itâs a âworking lunchâ where you pay for your own choice of food
and/or drink with a Lunch Menu offering light meals for around ÂŁ6-ÂŁ8
Duration: Meetings begin at 12:30 and finish at 14:00 prompt.
Whatâs the MTN meeting format?
Informal! Thereâs sociable âget-to-know-youâ chatting over lunch, and
then we are in a TeamMeeting situation seated together around the
table, so everybody takes part in the general conversation and exchange
of ideas, facilitated by the TeamHost. Thereâs no script (hooray!) and no
âwallflowersâ â everybody is involved throughout. This format means
meetings with up to 15 attendees will work best.
What happens at an MTN meeting?
Lots â in a short time! Perhaps the best way to explain is to look at a
typical Agenda (timings are approximate and flexible, but we always
finish on time):
12:30 Turn up, order your lunch and/or drink, join the table â lunches
will arrive during the next15 minutes
12:40 Cards on the Table â pass round business cards, take one from
anybody you donât already know, keep it in front of you
12:45 TweetânâGreet - introduce yourself in 140 characters (20 â 25
words) â thereâs plenty of time for getting to know more about you later,
and weâve got your card
12:55 TableTalk â informal chat over lunch
13:05 The Buddy Scramble - the Buddy Bag is passed around. Each
person takes a Scrabble letter from the bag and writes their name next
to that letter on the Buddies List, so we are all paired up (with the
occasional threesome â nothing kinky!) Lunch should be over by now and
we may move seats so weâre next to our Buddies. Buddies will arrange to
have a 1-2-1 before the next meeting (in person or on Skype) which will
broadly follow the powerful MyTeam Network âEngage â Connect â Share
â Collaborateâ checklist we provide for you.
13:15 Todayâs RoundTable Topic â at each MTN Meeting we explore a
business (or personal development) related topic, chosen by a vote of

Members â for example Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), using Twitter
for business, stress-busting techniques, time management, closing the
sale etc. In between meetings anybody who finds some time can
research the topic and share links to online resources. Members will
share their own experiences of how they apply skills and techniques, and
when possible the TeamLeader will invite a local specialist on the topic
to join us for lunch, and help to answer questions (but not sell their
wares!)
13:40 Vote to choose Next Meetingâs Topic - nominations from
attendees are welcome (the TeamLeader will have a list of possible
topics). We may even vote to carry on with the same topic again.
13:50 Commit2Do (totally optional!) You can if you wish make a promise
to yourself in front of the group to achieve a business of personal goal in
a given time scale. MyTeam Buddies will supportively follow each otherâs
progress. Itâs a form of accountability to yourself more than anything,
and you wonât be blamed for not getting it done - but praise will be duly
lavished if you do!
13:55 Whatâs on, Watson? The TeamLeader asks for a quick heads-up
about networking events that people are planning to attend before the
next meeting so we can set up some potential TeamNetworking dates
(more explanation of how that works later!)
14:00 Meeting ends promptly⌠Buddies fix up a time for your 1-2-1

Non-Members, lapsed or resting Members can stay in touch with whatâs
going on at MyTeam Network. The Group is currently âby invitation onlyâ.
How long do I have to join for?

Are there any rules?
There are a few My Team ârules of thumbâ for the benefit of all Members
which apply across the Network â more may be added if necessary!
1. Engage, Share, Collaborate, & Support your TeamMates â take part!
2. âDitch the Pitchâ â no direct selling, blatant self-promotion or other
spammy behaviour please. These are your colleagues, and thereâs plenty
of time to get to know each other, and let us know what you have to
offer, in a non-intrusive way.
3. Donât Recruit â likewise, please don't canvas to recruit Members to
attend your own networking groups, meetings and events, or join your
downline, or paid-for website. Of course, sharing does include letting
them know about networking opportunities, resources, freebies â just
donât push sales messages at TeamMates for personal gainâŚ
4. Don't Be Boring â networking should be fun!
