Continuous Improvement - Six Sigma
RESULT: ANNUAL SAVINGS OVER $300K LABOR ALONE, INVESTMENT: $25K.
Define: Unable to track WIP work orders, unable to locate lost WIP
Measure: Production control Employees spend several hours weekly to status
WIP and locating misplaced material
Analyze: An automated method of tracking WIP would result in more time
available for pro-active planning activities, better inventory control, and less
excess inventory
Improve: Developed a custom automated system through a collaborative effort
with IT programmers that is easy to use, and is flexible where WIP can be
located from any PC on the network
CONTROL: Reporting developed that can reveal WIP location, travel time, and
queue time from any PC on the network. Also utilized to prioritize material at
work cells and inspection stations. Locates lost material by sending auto-
notification to production control as to location when scanned.
