TRADITIONAL FINNISH FOOD
Finnish people eat traditionally food that origins straight
from the fields, lakes and forests. We eat a lot of fish, meat,
 grain (rye, barley and oat)
 berries (strawberries, blueberries, lingonberries and
cloudberries) mushrooms (chanterelles, boletus). Milk and
its products like buttermilk are used in foods and drinks.
Finnish also eat a lot of potatoes.

Finnish food has been influenced by Sweden, but we also
have some Russian influences. Nowadays the Finns eat as
global as everywhere, but the traditional cooking should be
 kept alive.
Vegetables
Vegetables, especially
root vegetables and
cabbage (they could be
well retained in the
winter in the old days)
have always been very
popular Finnish food.
The Finns love this drink:
milk!
Rye Bread
This bread kept the
Finns alive in the poor
old days. Nowadays rye
bread is eaten much
because of its
healthiness. It is so
called ”super food”.
Meat stew with
mashed potatoes
All kinds of stews (pork, beef
and reindeer) are
traditionally very popular in
Finland. Usually boiled
potatoes or mashed potatoes
are served with it. You also
can add some lingonberry
marmalade on your portion.
Fish dishes
Finland is a country of
thousands of lakes, so it is
easy to get fish here. In
addition to super markets
you can catch your fish in a
lake or in a river. And finally
you can make a nice and
creamy soup out of it!
Porridge
It’s not only the infants that
eat porridge in Finland.
Porridge is very healthy and
you can make it out of many
ingredients: berries, different
kinds of grains.
Cinnamon buns
Finnish people bake a
lot at home. These
kinds of buns are very
easy to bake and they
taste delicious!
