The touch device landscape is diverse, fast paced and changing every week, providing new challenges to designers with each new incarnation of device or operating system. But there’s more to challenge designers… thinking about inclusion of people who may have visual, cognitive, hearing, motor or speech impairments…or some of all of them due to age. So what do we mean when we say “designing for all” in the world of touch devices, what makes it so darn hard to do and how can we create user experiences that are inclusive for this hugely diverse group of people? This presentation will explore: - What is “universal design” in the context of the touch device landscape - What universal touch design strategies work and why - Cool tech: There are some really interesting new technologies being developed – for example buttons that appear and disappear on phone surfaces as needed for visually impaired users, new gestural tech such as Myo Gesture control and speech recognition. - Practical how to: The examples of how to create an inclusive design for touch with real world applications.

What does this mean for Information Architecture, and those who practice it? In this presentation, we will explore that question. First, we'll establish what sort of material language is, and then we'll look at how IA uses it to shape the human environment. Andrew Hinton is an information architect at The Understanding Group, and the author of Understanding Context. Sasha explores the technology trends of the past 300 years and the implications for the future. We live in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world where the main currency is ideas and innovation and the most important investment you can make if you. Sasha blogs at www.startupme.co Sasha is a Guernsey resident technology entrepreneur, angel investor and NED. She set up her first venture in school aged 16 and the entrepreneurial spark never left her. Since then she has worked for Google, L'Oreal and Priceline, co-founded a private start-up accelerator, a green activist group in Russia and launched a mobile game for iOS. At Google, Sasha created or co-founded global award winning campaigns such as the Google Cultural Institute and a big data predictor algorithm for competitions. She is passionate about supporting and promoting startup ecosystems and is involved with projects in Guernsey as a director with Start Up Guernsey, committee member of Creative Industries. She has lived and worked in Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, UK and Spain and holds a BSc from the London School of Economics and an MBA from INSEAD. She lives in Guernsey with her husband, whom she met climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for charity, and their twin daughters.

Slide 3: Before we look to the future of technology, we must examine the past. 1983: Apple Lisa The first commercial computer with a graphical user interface (GUI) — the advance that would finally make computers usable by people with no special training. The name was the acronym for “Local Integrated Software Architecture” and possibly the daughter of someone on the development team (Steve Jobs). The computer was $10,000 and only sold 10,000 of them. 1993: Polaroid, Powerbook and pagers JVC Video Camcorder, Apple PowerBook 160, Polaroid OneStep, Sony Sports Walkman cassette player and a pager. 2003: The iTunes Music Store was launched. Responsive design, application development using APIs, and content strategy are hot topics in web development right now. These ideas belong to a bigger umbrella: ubiquitous computing and the role it plays in our lives. Traditional ideas of usability are undergoing dynamic changes as we move away from a desktop-first model of personal computing. The internet refrigerator already exists and it's only the tip of the iceberg. In the near future, human-computer interactions will be thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities. Postdesktop was a presentation to add clarity to responsive design as part of a larger context and to think about a shift that is changing the devices we use to access the web, the delivery method for education, the teaching and learning experience, and the whole of our lives. 오늘 5월 15일 '공유경제 가능성과 성장을 위한 정책 방향' 세미나가 있었습니다. 정말 알찬 내용에 유익한 토론의 기회였습니다. 보다 많은 분들과 공유하고 싶은 세미나였습니다. 페북 중계 못한게 아쉽네요. 기재부 국장님께서도 참석해서 정부의 공유경제에 대한 의지를 보여주셨습니다. 저도 발표를 했지만 구자현 한국개발원 연구원님과 박지순 고대교수님의 발제 내용이 너무 좋아서 많이 배웠습니다. 패널토론도 질문과 의견들 너무 좋았습니다. 오늘 행사는 고려대 미래성장연구소와 한국공유경제협회가 중앙일보 후원으로 열렸습니다. -- "출발 늦은 한국 공유경제, 참여 개인 수익 높이면 급성장 가능" 한국이 미국·중국에 비해 공유경제의 출발이 늦었지만, 공유경제 플랫폼에 참여하는 개인이 조합원이 돼 이익을 가져가는 '조합형 공유경제 플랫폼'을 도입하면 추격이 가능하다는 주장이 나왔다. "블록체인 발달로 조합형 플랫폼 구현 가능" 이 자리에서 주제 발표를 맡은 조산구 공유경제협회장은 "우버 같은 공유경제 플랫폼 업체가 상장을 통해 돈잔치를 벌이는 한 편에선 이 플랫폼에 참여한 드라이버들이 상대적으로 낮은 소득에 시달리는 문제가 생기고 있다"고 지적했다. 그러면서 "한국은 (공유경제에 있어서) 이미 출발이 늦은 만큼 플랫폼에 참여하는 개개인을 주인으로 하는 조합형 모델을 도입하면 급성장 가능성이 있다"며 "블록체인 기술이 발전하면서 플랫폼 조합주의의 구현도 가능해졌고, 이를 적극 활용해야 한다"고 말했다. 15일 성루 명동 전국은행연합회 국제회의실에서 공유경제 세미나 참석자들이 패널 토론을 벌이고 있다. 왼쪽부터 구자현 한국개발연구원 연구위원, 김동호 중앙일보 논설위원, 사회자인 방문규 고려대 석좌교수, 조산구 한국공유경제협회장, 한훈 기재부 정책조정국장, 양희동 이대 교수, 최현경 산업연구원 연구위원. "공유 경제 활성화 위해 인프라 공유 필요" 이어진 패널 토론에서도 다양한 지적이 나왔다. 김동호 중앙일보 논설위원은 "올들어 시행 중인 규제샌드박스 심사가 신사업에 대한 또 하나의 관문이 되고 있다"며 "신사업에 대해 중국처럼 '선 시행 후 규제'까지는 못하더라도 규제샌드박스 문턱을 더 낮춰야 한다"고 지적했다. 양희동 이화여대 경영학부 교수는 "공유경제가 활성화하려면 물류 같은 인프라 공유가 필요하다"며 "정부가 할 일은 경제 주체들이 신뢰를 바탕으로 인프라를 공유할 토대를 만드는 것"이라고 말했다. 최현경 산업연구원 연구위원은 "공유경제 활성화를 위해 규제완화를 얘기하지만, 산업별로 갖고 있는 문제점이 다르고 해결방안도 다르다"며 "산업별 해법을 찾기 위한 작업이 필요하다"고 말했다. 토론에 참석한 한훈 기획재정부 정책조정국장은 "정부는 국민편익, 관련산업 발전, 기존 종사자 이익 보호라는 세 가지 기조를 바탕으로 공유경제 활성화 문제에 접근하고 있다"고 말했다.
