If we start with the assumption that — in order to improve our social sector as a whole — those who do the work to strengthen our communities (the nonprofits) are equally as critical as those responsible for providing the resources for the work to get done (the foundations), then why wouldn’t we expect all social sector actors to build their capacity? How do we know when our grantees and our foundations are becoming more effective and impactful as a result of our capacity investments, organizational development efforts and technical assistance? What does a high performing organization or foundation look like? And can we measure that? This presentation, provided during the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations 2016 National Conference in Minneapolis, reviews and demonstrates existing resources for assessing nonprofit and foundation capacity and effectiveness. Speakers introduced the pros and cons of a variety of rubrics in use in the field and offered guidance on how funders decide on the right fit for the desired purpose. Grantmaker peers also shared how they used different frameworks and tools to assess individual nonprofits and grantee cohorts. Session participants left with increased awareness of the importance of the facilitator’s role in interpreting data gleaned from assessments and of the data collection methods most appropriate for their organization.

Discussion 1 Post 1: Top of Form Today, data quality and privacy are important components in any organization around the world. Thus , project managers are required to come up with proper ways of ensuring better data quality and privacy to ensure there is availability and improve customer service that will go to the heart of enabling the organization have a proper and functioning system at the end of the day. The managers need to adopt the following recommendations for the business as follows. The first recommendation is the need to have a high level of accuracy and measurement when it comes to degree where the data values are obtained. Data accuracy is very important in the business as wrong values will produce wrong output and this will affect the quality of decision making process at the end of the day (Chiregi & Navimipour, 2016) Another important mechanism is to ensure that all the data is complete and contains all the required attributes that will ensure there is proper data that will used in the decision making process. Also, there is need for the data to be consistency and this means that all the attributes should be uniform and all the instances and references from the set of data (Pearson & Wegener,2013). Thus, all the data collected need to be accurate and all values be consistent form the source. Finally, there is need to have a unique demonstration of the records that will need to be represented within the data sets and this will remove the element of duplicates at the end of the day. As nonprofits consider the problem of program sustainability and capacity building; volunteers are a part of the answer. Effective organizations seek to engage volunteers in a variety of roles and responsibilities. This presentation provides information organizations can use as they seek to implement a volunteer program. This information will be helpful for organizations with current programs as ongoing review and revision is a part of effective volunteer management.

THIS WEEK’S WORK IS TWO DISCUSSIONS. Week 6: Social Change and Professional Development The characteristics of program design and evaluationare intended to provide some level of recommended change or action as a result of the systematic investigation into a program’s effectiveness. Evaluation can provide answers to questions about a program that may be useful in adjusting a program to become more effective. Because evaluation results in insight about the effectiveness of a program for a specific population, evaluation can be used to implement social change or action. Evaluation findings may assist stakeholders (those who hold an interest) or decision makers in go/no-go decisions about specific program modifications or initiate the continuation or demise of the entire program. Today, social policy and public administrative movement are closely associated with social program outcomes and effective evaluations. This week, you present your design for a program addressing the needs of the homeless population in your community and analyze how your program may effect social change. You also evaluate your potential to impact areas of human services delivery and assess the benefits of participating in professional human services organizations. Objectives By the end of this week, you should be able to: · Analyze how human services program design and evaluation influence social change · Evaluate personal impact on areas of human services delivery · Analyze how professional organizations contribute to professional development Learning Resources Required Readings Kettner, P. Module 4 - SLP Student Achievement, Accountability, and Community Partnerships The Module 4 readings provide you with a brief background on issues related to student achievement, accountability, and community partnerships. The goal of this assignment is to explore these areas at your current work site. Locate a recent accountability report regarding your school’s student academic achievement. In a 3- to 5-page paper, assess whether or not the accountability measures utilized in the report provide an accurate representation of your school site. Identify and discuss one area where the school is excelling. Identify and discuss one area where the school needs to improve. Next, identify one area that is not addressed in the report, but you feel should have been explored further (either because it demonstrates an area of success or an area that needs improvement). Lastly, evaluate whether or not your school site involves the community or encourages community partnerships. How has this affected student performance? SLP Assignment Expectations Your paper will be assessed on the following criteria: Assignment-driven criteria: Demonstrates mastery covering all key elements of the assignment in a substantive way. Scholarly writing: Demonstrates mastery and proficiency in scholarly written communication to an appropriately specialized audience. Quality of references and organization: Demonstrates mastery using relevant and quality sources and uses appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to support ideas, and convey understanding of the topic and shape the work. Citing sources: Demonstrates mastery using in-text citations or sources and properly uses APA format including a full reference list. Critical thinking/Application to professional practice: Demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem, and viewpoints and assumptions of experts are analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated thoroughly. Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner. Takoma, it's time to step up volunteering! During this session we will explore volunteer recruitment strategies, including using technology and social media to market, promote and retain volunteers... come prepared to think about the volunteers you are trying to attract (who is your target volunteer?), current strategies or plans you are using for recruitment, ways in which you are supporting and retaining volunteers (do they have clear assignments, understanding of the organizational mission), and some ideas on your desired outcome. We will delve into this and more as we answer questions and show examples of innovative ways to recruit and retain volunteers including using the StepUpTakoma website to market and promote your positions.
