Holy Ghost Baptism
•Post salvation, a believer must seek to be baptized in the Holy
Spirit
– Being born again means God has made our spirit new – He has taken
our human spirit and replaced it with His Holy Spirit
•To grow and be effective as believers, we must be baptized in
the Holy Spirit.
• The flesh limits while the Holy Spirit promises to teach,
strengthen, encourage, comfort, empower – Acts 1:4-8
•Promise of the Holy Ghost – Acts 2
•Growth in Christ works hand-in-hand with the Holy Ghost

Supernatural Power (Gifts of the Spirit)
•The Holy Spirit has diverse gifts, administrations and operations
•These gifts are manifested in every believer and even those that do not know Christ
– 1Cor 12:1-11
•The Nine Gifts of the Spirit
There are nine Gifts of the Spirit and they are broken down in three categories as
follows:

Christian Character (Fruit of the Spirit)
• The spontaneous work of the Holy Spirit in us
• These are the same character traits found in the
nature of Jesus Christ
• It is for Holiness while the gifts of the Spirit are for
power – Gal 5: 22-25
• The fruit of the Spirit are the by-products of
Christ’s control over our lives – Matt 7: 15-23
• It is an embodiment of Christian virtues –
– To bear fruit, the ground of our hearts must be fertile –
Rom 8:13

•ONE fruit of the Spirit with nine characteristics:
– Love
– Joy

Love – Seeing the other person the way God
sees him. Three types of love:
• Agape – God’s love
– Love to God
– Love to fellow believers
– Love to neighbors – Matt 22:37-39
• Filial – Love between parents and children

Joy – This is inner pleasantness which
characterizes a life that is fulfilled.
•Joy is not limited by circumstances –
Habakkuk 3:17-18
•It does not depend on circumstances

Longsuffering – Exhibiting endurance
& patience in times of provocation.
•It sees one through persecution
•It makes one intercede for people
even when they seem hardened – 1

Gentleness – Ability to deal with people without
being harsh.
• It is a gracious and considerate understanding
act of kindness which stems from a tender
heart.
• It is not weakness - Mark 10:13-14
• It forgives every time even when forgiveness is
not sought for.

Goodness – Having a zeal for truth and
righteousness
• It is hatred for evil
• It is being upright
• It is being dependable
• It is being generous to others.
• It is benevolent – Matt 5:16

Char. Fruit of Spirit – Faith/Meekness/Temperance
• Faith – Complete abandonment to God and an
absolute dependence on Him – Eph 3:16-17
• Meekness (Gentleness) – Is not stupidity or self-
debasement
– It is true humility, one that does not consider itself too
good to do a humble task
– It is contrary to pride – Eph 4:2
• Temperance (Self-control) – Self that is controlled by
the Holy Spirit
– It is moderation in indulgence of appetites and passion –
Prov 16:32

Gift of the Spirit: Revelation – Word of Wisdom
The Word of Wisdom – The supernatural manifestation of the will God which
reveals to the beneficiary, in a flash, the mind and the purpose of God for
the future
What the Word of Wisdom is NOT:
• It is not human wisdom
• It is not intelligence or brilliance
Purpose of the gift:
• It reveals something that is yet to happen
• It comes for a specific or particular purpose
• It brings about spectacular results – Acts 11:28-30, 1st Kings 22: 1-28
• Usually operates with virtually all the other gifts

Gift of the Spirit: Revelation – Word of Knowledge
The Word of Knowledge – The supernatural manifestation of the knowledge of God, which reveals to the
beneficiary in a flash, the mind and the purposes of God for the past & present
• Word of knowledge deals with the past and present but the word of wisdom deals with the future only
• The Holy Spirit does not reveal everything to you but gives you a word
What the word knowledge is NOT:
• It does not mean all of the knowledge of God
• Learning and studying the Word of God do not acquire it
• Manifested when no human way to know the circumstances – Joshua 7:2, 2Kings 6:8
• Can be manifested through vision, inward revelation, tongues and interpretation through prophecy
Purpose of the gift:
• Enlightens the discouraged – 1Kings 14:18-26
• Exposes hypocrisy – Acts 5: 1-5, 2Kings 5:1-5
• Warns of impending danger – 2Kings 6: 8-12
• Helps to recover – 1Sam. 9: 3-20.
• Reveals sickness and demonic possession

Gift of the Spirit: Revelation – Discerning of Spirit
Discerning of spirits – The supernatural enablement so see,
hear, taste or smell into the realms of the spirit
What Discerning of Spirit is NOT:
•It is not the ability to see faults in others – Matt.7: 1
•It is not mind reading
•It is not psychological insight
Purpose of the gift:
•Enables one to see into the spirit world – 2Kings 6:16, John 1:48
•Used to discern any spirit - 1John 4:1, Acts 16:16-18
•To discern evil and hypocrisy – 1Cor. 12:1-11

Power Working Gifts: F aith
Power Working Gifts – The means by which God advertises the gospel of Jesus Christ
Gift of Faith – The ability to receive a little fragment of God’s faith supernaturally imparted by the Holy Spirit in a moment of
need to meet a specific need
Types of Faith – There are four different types of Faith:
• The natural human faith
• Saving faith – Acts16: 31, Eph.2: 9
• Faith as the fruit of the spirit – Gal. 5:22-23
• Gift of special faith or faith as a gift of the Spirit – Gen.1: 1, Heb 11:8-10.
Characteristics of faith:
• The recipient looks at the situation from God’s perspective
• Operates along with gifts of healing and working of miracles
• Could operate through anyone who is living in the spirit
• Could be released at anytime even when you are not feeling spiritual
Uses of Faith:
• Used for supernatural blessings
• Used for personal protection – Dan. 6:16-27
• Used for supernatural sustenance. 1Kings 17:2-6
• Used for raising the dead – 1Kings 17:23
• Used to cast out evil spirits – Acts 6:16-18, Matt.17:18-20
• Used to minister the Holy Spirit. Gal. 3:5

Power Working Gifts: Working Miracles
Gift of Working of Miracles – The supernatural intervention in
the ordinary course of nature and a temporary suspension of
the accustomed order.
Manifestation
• The sun and the moon stands still Joshua 10:9-13
• The floating axe head. 2Kings 6:1-7
• The barrel of meal and the cruse of oil. 1Kings 17:12-16
• The stilled storm. Mark 4:39

Power Working Gifts: Healing
Gift of Healing – The supernatural ability given to the
recipient to cure illness and restore health without
the use of natural means.
• The Lord is the healer – Exodus 15:26
• At least three ways in which healing can be received
from God:
– By personally claiming the promises of God – Psalm
103:3 Matt.8:17, 1Peter 2:24
– Through elders’ prayer of faith and anointing with oil –
James 5:13-16
– Through the operation of the gift of healing

Utterance: Prophecy
Prophecy – Special ability that God gives to receive and communicate an immediate
message to His people through a divinely anointed utterance in a known language –
2Pet.21
What the Gift is NOT:
• Different from prophecies recorded in the Bible – purpose to edify, exhort and
comfort believers
• Cannot take the place of the written Word of God
Characteristics:
• Prophecy must edify, exhort and comfort to be from God – 1Cor. 14:3
• Must not put people in bondage – Rom. 8:15
• Must agree with the Scriptures
• The life of the person prophesying must measure up – Matt.7:15-18
• Giving prophecies does not make one a prophet.
• Prophecy should be judged because it is delivered through a human vessel –
1Thess.5:20-21
