8. Oppressive?
John 15:9-10
If you obey my commands, you will
remain in my love, just as I have
obeyed my Fatherâs commands and
remain in his love. I have told you
this so that my joy may be in you and
that your joy may be complete.
9. Oppressive?
Deuteronomy 10:12
And now, Israel, what does the
LORD your God ask of you but to
fear the LORD your God, to walk in
obedience to him, to love him, to
serve the LORD your God with all
your heart and with all your soul,
13. Matthew 28:19-20a
Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have
commanded you.
14. Exodus 20:1-2
And God spoke all these words:
âI am the LORD your God, who

Commandments
18. Reality #1 â Putting God above
all is not a âboth-andâ
proposition, but an âeither-or!â
Exodus 20:3
You shall have NO other gods
before me.
19.
20. Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters.
Either you will hate the one and
love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise
the other. You cannot serve both
God and money.
23. An idol is set up when your
heart takes something, often a
good thing, and makes it an
ultimate thing. Your heart then
seeks its significance and security
from the idol rather than from God.
Instead of giving our full allegiance
to God who alone is worthy, we
pursue far lesser things.
24. Romans 1:25
They exchanged the truth about
God for a lie, and worshiped and
served created things rather than
the Creatorâwho is forever
praised. Amen.
25. Reality #1 â Putting God above
all is not a âboth-andâ
proposition, but an âeither-or!â
33. Isaiah 55:8-9
âFor my thoughts are not your
thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways,â declares the LORD. âAs the
heavens are higher than the earth, so
are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.â
34. Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask from the LORD,
this only do I seek: that I may dwell
in the house of the LORD all the
days of my life, to gaze on the
beauty of the LORD and to seek
him in his temple.
35. âWe are half-hearted
creatures, fooling around
with drink and sex and
ambition when infinite joy is offered
us, like an ignorant child who wants
to go on making mud pies in the
slum because he cannot imagine
what is meant by an offer of a
holiday at sea. We are far too
easily pleased.â (C.S. Lewis)
36. Reality #2 â Putting God above
all should be a âNo brainer!â
41. Is God #1 on your priority
list? Is your life about Him
first? Are you seeking him
to satisfy the hunger of
your heart?
âGod cannot give us happiness
and peace apart from himself,
because it is not there.â
(C. S. Lewis)
