1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCTS USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS?
2. REPRESENTATION OF THE ARTIST
The frame below is the representation of the artist. As my genre is R and B I have
decided to give my artist and the décor of some of the locations and Mise en scene to
be girly. This is so that it stays conventional to the genre and the audience are able to
identify the genre and the artist. This is so that the audience can see
what kind of person the artist is which will allow them to connect
with the artists and by having a narrative they will feel more
connective because they will be listening to and watching the story
within the music video. It I important to show emotions within the
music video because if there are no emotions being shown then it
will confuse the audience as to what the story is about.
3. SETTING/LOCATION
The second frame is showing the setting and location I chose to use within my music
video and I chose to use the frame below as I found it very generic as in stereotypical
R and B genre music videos you will find the artist walking along the sea or at the
seaside and considering I couldn’t get to a location with a seaside, I believed it would
look good and generic for my artist to walk along the embankment. It is also a part of
the narrative as we see the artists at the embankment the beginning of the music
video then see her walking away from the embankment towards the end of the music
video.
4. COSTUME AND PROPS
In the third frame you will see the costume and props I have used and In this frame
the artists is in lingerie sitting on a bed surrounded with a lot of teddies. As my genre
is R and B, it was important for me to make it clear to the audience that she is
someone wo is heart broken and is trying to get over a heartbreak but is finding it
hard. The lingerie shows the romantic and girly side of the artists and that keeps it
conventional and the teddies show that she is trying to find ways to fill in her bed. By
having a lot of teddies it shows that she is lonely without her ex and she
is tying to fill in the empty space.
5. CAMERAWORK AND EDITING
In the fourth frame below I have used a variety of different shots and angles in my
music video and this is to keep it interesting as having one or two shots and angles
would have made it very boring and having the different angles gives it an edge. Also
in my music video I have included a effect where the artists is having a flashback with
her ex and while they are walking, they reverse back slightly and starting walking
again and this is conventional as it is showing the audience that the artists is thinking
abut the past hence the reversing and
that she is wishing to go back to that
space of time.
6. PERFORMANCE
• In this fifth frame I shall be discussing the romance level of my artist. As my genre is R
and B and the stereotypical artists and original artists of that genre are African-
Americans, I thought it would be conventional to have someone who is of black race . The
person I had used my for artist was very conventional as she was of black race, had
really big hair and was really girly however in terms of her performance skills, they
weren’t so good as she looks at the camera at the wrong times and doesn't look at the
right time and this is because she is quite shy. However other than that her performance
was well as you are able to
tell that she is missing someone and trying to
get back with them and she performed the
narrative well as her facial expression and
body language showed she was upset when
he left her.
7. NARRATIVE
The sixth frame is of the narrative and I have tried to keep the narrative as generic as
I could as In a R and B genre music video, there is always a narrative and the
narrative is either about a heart break or about a love story therefore I have kept it
conventional by having a narrative about the artist missing her ex and therefor
having flashbacks from the past and showing herself by herself in he future and
looking lonely and finding ways to fill in the emptiness. This will allow the audience to
have a clear understanding of what is going on as they will see the narrative
and it will go with the lyrics as well so it will
make sense.
8. GENRE AND HOW THE MUSIC VIDEO
SUGGESTS IT?
The genre I am doing it R and B and the music video suggests this from all the Mise
en scene such as costume, locations, colours used an the appearance of the artist. I
have tried my best to keep it as generic as I could by using the stereotypical ideas
such as a love story or heart break and by using colour that represent love and anger
and loyalty and betrayal. I haven't used multiple themes therefor the audience will
not get confused, I have made it clear of what the story is and have made sure that all
three of my texts, digipak, magazine advert and music video have a correlation and
that the all link and have the same theme
and colour.
9. HOW CHARACTERS ARE INTRODUCED?
In the eighth frame shall be introducing the characters. The first character that was
introduced was the artist and she was introduced by walking along the embankment
and it looked like she was walking towards the embankment and that is apart of the
narrative as the first shot is of her walking towards the embankment then we see hr
having flashbacks and seeing memories then one of the last scenes is hr walking away
from the embankment. The second character be introduced is
her ex who is introduced not long after her by having a flashback where they ae
together in a scene. This is very conventional for the
genre as we see the artist emotional and we can also
see that its very clear its her ex who is in the
second character.
10. SPECIAL EFFECTS
In the ninth frame I shall discuss special effects. There weren’t a lot of special effects
used within my music video as I'm not so good at using the programmes for editing
however I've learnt a few things and the only special effect I used is, in the beginning
of the music video I did a shot were the artist and her ex are walking, they stop for
half a second, reverse back and little and carry on. I added this as my music video has
a few repetitive scenes and as I don’t want it to be boring I added
that effect to make it more interesting.
11. CONCLUSION
To conclude, I believe that I have made my music video as conventional as it can be as
I have used a variety of things in order to keep it generic and to keep it clear which
enables the audience to clearly understand what the genre is, story is and narrative is.
I have kept it generic by using the right colours, outfits, locations and storyline. I have
also tried to keep my magazine advert and digipak generic and have also tried to
make sure that all three texts of mine are linked and I have tried to do this by having
th same theme, colour theme and same font and have put a picture of the artist
herself on both the poster and the album so that the audience know what they're
looking for and find it easy to find.
