3. What is this? Obesity is defined as excessively fat In the Webster's dictionary food is defined as any nourishing substance eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth but in American society it is fatty, tasty, processed, refined and contains no nutrients
4. Why we have obesity America lives a life on the go and eat packaged, processed and refined food instead of healthy, home cooked meals. The average kid sees more than 10,000 food ads on TV a year. Almost all Americans have taken advantage of these cheap prices of fast food
5. Children Obesity Obesity in children has tripled in the last thirty years Obesity can lead to various health problems including diabetes, arthritis, cancer, respiratory problems and cardio-vascular disease, which can affect a child's health as they grow
6. How this affects society One major affect is an increase in health insurance rates As more people become obese and require more treatment, insurance rates go up As a result of obesity the size of chairs have gone up. This may seem like a small change but the production price has been raised and the consumer is suffering
7. How we can fix this problem The United States have the highest obese rate in the world followed by Mexico The percent of people in America that are obese is 30.6% and this NEEDS to CHANGE We can do this by doing simple things such as cooking healthy home cooked meals instead of going out to order “food” from McDonalds Already in progress right now there are local groups that have community events specifically to battle obesity An example of one of these community events is the “We Can!”program(http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/obesity/wecan/)
