3. ITS MEANING
Hijrah linguistically,
It means 'migration'.
Historically in Islam,
It is the migration of the Prophet and his noble
companions from the city of Makkah to the city of
Madinah in the thirteenth year of his prophethood.
It also refers to leaving a place to seek freedom
from persecution or freedom of religion. It can
also mean to leave a bad way of life for a good or
more righteous way. All of these together.
4. ITS SIGNIFICANCE
Surat Taobah verse 36.
Holding on to Hijrah calendar is a demonstration
of faith, believe in the Qur'an and the nobility of
the righteous.
5. A SUNNAH OF UMAR
It is reported that the Islamic Hijra calendar based
on lunar counting as we use it today was
established by the righteous and insightful caliph,
Umar ibn Kattaab, to commemorate this historical
milestone in the history of Islam and Muslims
6. OUR IDENTITY
The fishes never dissolve in water but rather survive.
Our righteous salaf were raised in ignorant, immoral,
corrupt and arrogant society, yet they survived and
illuminate it with guidance.
This guidance is still with us today, why do we languish in
ignorance and corruption? A question for all!
If we are to give the answer in just one sentence, it will be:
We are not doing the hijrah accordingly.
It is incumbent on Muslims to claim their identity.
7. ITS REQUIREMENTS
There are requirements for valid hijrah.
(1) One must hate the wrong. The noble companions hate kufr and
the wrongs in their society.
(2) One must be ready to forsake the enjoyment that shaytan has
attached to the wrongs.
(3) One must have the faith that what is with Allah is best.
(4) Knowledge of Allah and His commandments and what He
prohibit.
There are practical examples in our societies today that
demonstrate the lack of the aforementioned
8. ITS REGULATION
While talking about hijrah it’s necessary we
should note that we are not allowed to celebrate it
the way our two known eids is celebrated.
The salaf engage in fasting and other acts of
worship during this time and not celebration or
dancing. Allah know best.
9. CONLUSION
They did it in the past and success through it.
We must do it today as well to succeed.
May Allah guide us aright.
