• Statement from child
• Symptons
• Self harm
• Pregancy
• STDs
4. What to do if you expect abuse?
• Awareness of procedures
• It is NOT the instructors responsibility to
determine if abuse has taken place, however..
• It IS their responsibility to act upon & report
any concerns
• Inform the person that you MUST report what
has been shared.
• Report your concerns to the Club/Centre’s
Welfare officer.
5. Record keeping:
• Always keep records, making sure they are:
• Legible
• Dated
• Signed
• Relevant
• Stored safely/kept confidential
• Record regardless of whether action is taken.
6. Things to avoid:
• Over use of criticism
• Being alone in an isolated locations
• Taking children or VA in your own transport
• Taking children or VA to your home
• Horseplay
• Allow inappropriate language to go un-challenged
• Make suggestive comments
• Carry out personal tasks that can be done themselves
• Meet outside of the workplace
• Allow allegations to go un-reported.
7. Conclusion:
• Incidents within RTC’s are rare
• It is common that instructors are confided in
• Be sure before acting
• Instructors are not trained to deal with
incidents
• Seek help from those who are trained.
