8. “An open ecosystem that ensures
that the production,
communication, access, and use of
all research objects across the
research cycle maximizes the
global public good by being rapid,
transparent, relevant,
equitable, and inclusive.”

11. Considering equity and inclusivity
when we make decisions on what
initiatives and policies to
support...

14. Do we want to simply “flip” the
current publishing system we have
from one supported by subscriptions
to one supported by Article
Processing Charges (APCs)?
15. Or do we want to truly transform
the the way research is conducted
and shared?
25. “Everything we have gained by
opening content and data will be
under threat if we allow the enclosure
of scholarly infrastructures.”

reward – instead of just talking
about what we don’t.
NOT because there no scholarship being produced in these regions; But rather the scholarship is not Appearing in the journals that have come to dominate the market. That essentially means it’s scholarship that is in written (not oral, or any form..), it’s in English, and it addresses topics of interest to those who run/publish the dominant journals - primarily in Northern Europe,& North America. Topics that may be of deep interest and import locally have little place in the “global” literature. This is deeply and dangerously reinforced by current systems of incentives and rewards, which directly reward scholars for publication in “named” journals, “international” journals, and journals that carry high impact factors... and journals that also generally carry high price tags to access.
We need to carefully and deliberately consider the implications when we are making decisions about directions/things to supports.
What about the vision of supporting an entirely new set of communications platforms (or channels), where content contributions of all kinds can be shared in real time, and where truly new ways of of prioritizing and valuing them can take place?
