Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim .
Gangtok is located in the Shivalik Hills of the eastern Himalayan range.
A centre of Buddhist learning and culture , Gangtok’s most notable Buddhist
institutions are the Enchey monastery and Rumtek monastery.
The Rumtek monastery on the outskirts of the town is one of Buddhism’s most
sacred monasteries.

7. Sunrise from Hanuman Tok & Ganesh Tok
Ganesh Tok is at a height of 6500 ft. The Ganesh Tok is a temple
dedicated to Lord Ganesh .
Hanuman Tok is also one of the renowned temple of the state
dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is believed that when Hanuman was
carrying “ Sanjivani herb “ ( to save the life of Laxmana) he rested at
this spot.

10. Captain “BABA” Harbhajan
Singh was an Indian army
soldier who died near the Baba Mandir
Nathula Pass and is
reverred by the soldiers of
the Indian army. According
to legend Baba drowned
in a glacier following the
Sino-Indian war in 1968.
But he is believed to guard
the soldiers in the
inhospitable terrain.

11. Rumtek Monastery
Rumtek monastery also called as the Dharmachakra Centre , is
a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located near Gangtok.The
monastery is currently the largest in Sikkim.A Golden Stupa
contains the relics of the 16th Karmapa.

12. Monastery in Sikkim has its unique signature / aura about it. This monastery is also known
as the Lingdum Monastery. Before the Tibetian New Year one can find the young Buddhist
monks practising the Lama dance. It has a distinct style and form and is quite enjoyable
just to see them training. There is steep flight of stairs which leads guest to the inner
sanctum. It is better to visit this place during prayer.
The inside of the monastery has colourful wall hangings touching nearly all the way to
the floor. The walls as usual have depictions and drawings all around. The inner sanctum
of the Lingdum monastery is very much like any other large monastery. Large sized
Buddha statues plated in gold could be seen. The best part of this monastery is its access.
13. Pelling is a town in the district of West Sikkim, India.Pelling is nestled at an altitude of 2150m
(7200feet).The town is located at distance of 10 km. from the district headquarters of Geyzing. .
The mighty Himalayas and the Kanchenjanga may be viewed at close quarters from Pelling. Pelling also
forms the base from where trekkers and other peripatetic adventurers undertake the strenuous and
arduous treks in West Sikkim. The land around Pelling is still a virgin territory and is bathed with alpine
vegetation, with numerous waterfalls lining the hillside. In the months of winter, Pelling is sometimes
covered with a blanket of snow.
Most of the people of Pelling are Buddhists and speak the Sikkimese language. The other languages spoken
are Nepali, Hindi, and English .
Pelling is famous for the majestic view of the magnificent Mount Kanchenjangha. It also affords a
panoramic view of other snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

14. Yoksum
Yuksom is a historical town in
Geyzing district of West Sikkim. It
was the first capital of Sikkim.
Yuksom is also one of the sacred
landscape – Demazong –
(meaning a valley of rice ) of four
religious sites blessed by Guru
Padmasambhava.The king of
Sikkim was coronated here on the
throne made of stone close to the
Norbugang monastrey & the
chorten.The footprint of one of the
lamas , Latsun Chembo,who
consecrated the king can also be
seen close to the throne.

means Wishing
lake.
The lake is in the
shape of Buddha’s
foot and is reverred

19. Gurudongmar Lake
Gurudongmar lake is one of the highest lakes in the world- at an altitude of about 17,100 ft in
the province of North Sikkim, only some 5 kms south of Chinese border. It is a fresh water
lake and one the source streams of Teesta river.
The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava . It is said that this is why even at the height of
winter, one portion of the lake never freezes.
