Q1: Should a husband and wife
have joint accounts?
“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” – Amos 3:3
“Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward
for their labor.” – Ecc 4:9
Husband and wife do not necessarily need to have a joint
account, but they should have joint accounting.
Even companies can keep multiple accounts and use them
for different functions.There is need for a clearing account,
an expenditure account and an escrow account. Husband and
wife can decide whose account they want to use for each of
the purposes, and they can have the escrow account jointly.
One of the true tests of love, is how much of that love is
showing in your accounting.
4. +Q2: I would like to have savings of over 10m in the
next 5yrs, is this a practical goal since my steady
income is not up to 1/5 of that per annum?
“9 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first
fruits of all your increase;10 So your barns will be filled with
plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.” – Prov
3:9,10
When you are consistent and disciplined with your savings,
and honor God with your resources, it commands more
income.
If you don’t have a barn or reserve, you have nothing to
experience Heaven’s blessings with.
Once your goals are set, everything else sets in the direction
of making what you desire happen!
5. + Q3:You said money is a game, how do you
mean? What are the rules, and how do you
really play?
“…Victory is won through many advisers” – Prov
11:14b
If you read the verses before and after you’ll see it’s
basic rules of play.
Here are the simple rules – make income, manage your
expense, make reserves, make budgets, regularly
review, have a clear goal, play fairly, play by the rules,
seek guidance, aim to be free, have a winning mindset.
6. + Q4:You quoted the bible as saying the
ruthless retain wealth, how do I balance this
with loving my neighbor?
“A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain
riches” – Prov 11:16
What is Love? 1 John 4:7-10, 1 John 2: 6, 1 John 3:16
1-2 Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who
learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does
is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love.
Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but
extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but
to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. 3-4 Don’t allow
love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual
promiscuity, filthy practices, or bullying greed – Gal 5:1-4
A love that does not care about my eternity is not God’s love! To
understand the love, spread it over time.
7. + Q5: I’m afraid to let my spouse know how
much I earn, (s)he’s not going to use that
information well. Is this alright?
“5-9 Jesus said,“Moses wrote this command only as a
concession to your hardhearted ways. In the original
creation, God made male and female to be together. Because
of this, a man leaves father and mother, and in marriage he
becomes one flesh with a woman—no longer two individuals,
but forming a new unity. Because God created this organic
union of the two sexes, no one should desecrate his art by
cutting them apart” – Mark 10:5-9
The concept of becoming one, goes beyond sex. It’s one in
emotions, purposes, objectives, service and financially. You
will achieve more together if you decide to work together
and live with full disclosure! This is ideal.
Hiding things from each other, is a recipe for disaster.
8. +Q6: My spouses income is their business,
(s)he only gives me monthly allowance, we
don’t talk about finance, is this right?
Again: Two are better than one, as they have a better
reward for their labor, and if one chases 1,000 two can
put 10,000 to flight. There is a major loss of
productivity when two people work as 2, instead of as
one.
Rather than keeping your spouse out of the loop,
ensure they are informed as well. It’s better to work
towards the same goal.
One of the most intimate bonding activities between
husband and wife is reviewing progress together, in
all works of life including financially.
9. +Q7: All this budgeting, is it really practical?
What do you do when something comes that
is threatening your budget?
“Know your sheep by name;
carefully attend to your flocks;
(Don’t take them for granted;
possessions don’t last forever, you know.)
And then, when the crops are in
and the harvest is stored in the barns,
You can knit sweaters from lambs’ wool,
and sell your goats for a profit;
There will be plenty of milk and meat
to last your family through the winter.“ – Prov 27:23-27
The only way you will survive in winter, is if you learn the
discipline of budgeting and reviewing!
If anything comes and you have to do it, postpone it, if it must be
done, take from another budget and prioritize it, if you must
exceed, then mark yourself down, you are still learning.
10. +Q8: What is the role of prayer in my finances,
can I pray for a breakthrough? What must I
do spiritually to provoke financial harvest?
1 John 3:21-24 21-24 And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no
longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free
before God! We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we
asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases
him. Again, this is God’s command: to believe in his personally
named Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to love each other, in line with
the original command. As we keep his commands, we live deeply
and surely in him, and he lives in us. And this is how we experience
his deep and abiding presence in us: by the Spirit he gave us.”
John 15:16You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you
in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers,
whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you
The Only prayer I have found that works for financial harvest, is if
IT’s God who needs to use the money for his Project and needs a
steward, who has proven to be one. Else you get according to your
ability
11. +Q9: Do I really need a coach? What should I
expect to get from someone who wants to
coach me and help me achieve my best?
Prov 11:14 “Without good direction, people lose their way; the
more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances”
Prov 15: 5 “Moral dropouts won’t listen to their elders;
welcoming correction is a mark of good sense”
Prov 15: 10 “It’s a school of hard knocks for those who leave
God’s path, a dead-end street for those who hate God’s rules”
Prov 15: 12 “Know-it-alls don’t like being told what to do; they
avoid the company of wise men and women”
Expect – Counsel from experience, expect correction, expect
hard knocks if you already missed the path, expect to be told
what to do, and left to make your choices.
12. + Q10:What I earn is too small to plan any
future with, I can’t save or give, I feel stuck,
what can I do?
Prov 21:20 “There is desirable treasure, And oil in the dwelling
of the wise, But a foolish man squanders it.”
Spending all you have is not a description of the poor, it’s the
hallmark of the foolish.
Wisdom is the manifestation of long term thinking, that’s
preparing for winter from summer.
The poor don’t save because the poor don’t have, the poor
don’t have because the poor don’t save. Deliver yourself, learn
discipline when you don’t have much. Stretch yourself.
