We do not question here the applicability of GIS But the concern is the limited utility of this tool in discharging the functions of the board at the same time we do not wish to lag behind So, perhaps we can initiate GIS use in the MPPCB may be by asking the Large or Mega Industrial projects exceeding investment of Rs.300/500 crore to submit their EIA reports in GIS format. This shall not only help us to build the Valuable Resource database but shall help develop skill sets to make better & appropriate use of GIS software. At the end

This study aims to construct an interaction model among traffic characteristics, physics of road, and road environment, and the effect implications on noise level. The study was conducted on arterial and collector roads becoming the main line of traffic movement in Kendari city. Analytical approach used descriptive method and simultaneous equation system based on Partial Least Square (PLS). The results show that the traffic noise level has exceeded the threshold in accordance with designation of settlement environment as well as trade and services, in which the average noise level at the side of arterial and collector roads is 75.5 dB and 73.4 dB. Simultaneously, traffic characteristics, physical and environmental aspects of road have effects on noise with the determination coefficient (R²) 0.628. Traffic and road environment factors are significant direct effect on noise level.

It has been a big concern for many people and government to reduce the amount of road accident specially in Malaysia since it could be a big threat to this country. Malaysian government has spent millions of money in order to reduce the number of accident occurrence through several modes of campaign. Unfortunately, from years to years the number keeps increasing. The lack of a comprehensive accident recording and analysis system in Malaysia can be effective in these kinds of problems. By making use of IRAS (Intelligent Road Accident System), the police would be control and manage whole accident events as a real-time monitoring system. This system exploits WiMAX and GPRS communications to connect to the server for transfer the specific data to the data center. This system can be used for a comprehensive intelligent GIS-based solution for accident analysis and management. The system is developed based on object and aspect oriented software design such as .NET technology.

Waste management is a massive issue in India, most of the present systems cannot manage waste on a scalable level, thus creating pressure on the ecosystem. Before the elimination of waste, segregation needs to be done to manage individual types of waste. Hence taken the same approach to solving the problem, which most of the present-day systems fail to do. The goal is to segregate the garbage generated in individual households into solid, liquid, biodegradable, non-biodegradable, combustible, and non-combustible, using many subsystems that involve electro pneumatics, compression, and storage. Image processing techniques will further advocate the process. The desired system will further reduce the waste of an in-built pulverizer. After conducting in-depth research on the present solutions for the urban waste processing chain, the level of complexity increases as the waste goes further along the chain and, in the end, the only option left is incineration was figured out. The solution allows endpoints of the chain to process different types of garbage in a more organized fashion. Municipal solid waste (MSW) is solid waste that results from municipal community, commercial, institutional, and recreational activities. This paper aims to segregate the MSW generated by households into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, combustible, and noncombustible.

Consider a 400-MW, 32 percent efficient coal-fired power plant that uses cooling water withdrawn from a nearby river (with an upstream flow of 10-m3/s and temperature 20 °C) to take care of waste heat. The heat content of the coal is 8,000 Btu/lb, the carbon content is 60% by mass, and the sulfur content is 2% by mass. i. How much electricity (in kWh/yr) would the plant produce each year? ii. How many pounds per hour of coal would need to be burned at the plant? iii. Estimate the annual carbon emissions from the plant (in metric tons C/year). iv. Convert the carbon emissions to g C/kJ of energy produced. Compare your answer to that in Problem 2.7 of Homework 3 for petroleum combustion, and Example 2-3 for methane combustion. Comment on why coal is considered the “dirtiest” fossil fuel! v. If the cooling water is only allowed to rise in temperature by 10 °C, what flow rate (in m3/s) from the stream would be required? Is this sustainable? What would you recommend? vi. What would be the river temperature if all the waste heat was transferred to the river water assuming no heat losses during transfer? Would that be a problem? Why or why not. vii. Estimate the hourly SO2 emissions (in kg/h) from the plant assuming that all the sulfur is oxidized to SO2 during combustion. viii. What would be the problem in releasing SO2 to the atmosphere? Is sulfur dioxide a regulated priority pollutant? If yes, report the NAAQS? ix. How would you propose to remove sulfur dioxide at the power plant? x. Report on the required efficiency (in removal %) of the SO2 scrubber, if the plant is only allowed to emit the legal limit of 0.6 lb SO2 per million Btu of heat input. xi. How much particulate matter could be released (in kg/year particulates) if the plant met New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) that limit particulate emissions to 0.03 lb per 106 Btu heat? xii. Comment on the sources of particulates in the plant emissions? We have seen a dramatic decrease in particulate emissions since the 1970 Clean Air Act. How are particulate emissions controlled at stationary sources? 2. Consider an area-source box model for air pollution above a peninsula of land. The length of the box is 50 km, its width is 20 km, and a radiation inversion restricts mixing to 20 m. Wind is blowing clean air into the long dimension of the box at 0.4 m/s. Between 8 and 10 a.m. there are 300,000 vehicles on the road, each being driven 50 km, and each emitting 4 g CO/km. CO gets oxidized to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The half-life for CO in the atmosphere is 3 hours. Assume air temperature is 20⁰C. i. Estimate the steady state CO concentration in the air shed (in mg/m3) ii. Convert to ppmv and determine whether it exceeds the NAAQS. iii. If there was no CO at 8 a.m., determine the CO concentration(in mg/m3) at 10 o’clock. iv. How would air quality change if the wind speed picked up to 20 mph (miles per hour)? Here you need to recalculate the steady state CO concentration (in mg/m3). ...

Connecting Everything Vital to Sustainability Mobile network evolution has followed a reasonably predictable path almost entirely focused on the needs of human communication. The transition from 1 to 2G was dictated by the economics of reliability, performance, and scale, whilst 3, 4, and 5G saw the transition to mobile computing with full internet access, AI and an ever-expanding plethora of applications. But 5G could be the end of the line as cell-site energy demands have become excessive at ~10kW. Midway between the migration from 4G to 5G, M2M and the IoT machines overtook the human population of 8Bn people with near (estimated) 20Bn devices. Current IoT growth rates suggest a 40 - 60Bn population by 2030 to 2050. However, we present evidence that it could be far more ~ 1,000Bn ‘Things’. This is based on the observation of the number of IoT components populating modern vehicles, homes, offices, factories and plants, along with smart ‘human implants’ and ‘smart bolts’ plus the instrumentation of civil; structures. The bold assumption that 5G would be a dominant player in the IoT is now patently one of naivety and the world has become far more complex with over 10 wireless standards currently in use. So, this poses the question; will 6G rise to the challenge? We see this as highly unlikely as the diversity of need is extremely broad, and we propose that it could be the end of tower based networks for a lot of applications. A migration to mesh-nets, UWB and (Hyper Wide Band) for the IoT at frequencies above 100GHz seems the most obvious engineering choice as it allows for far simpler designs with extremely low power at sub $0.01/device cost. 5G is already on the margins of being sustainable, and a ‘more-of-the-same’ thinking 6G can lonely be far worse!

We do not question here the applicability of GIS But the concern is the limited utility of this tool in discharging the functions of the board at the same time we do not wish to lag behind So, perhaps we can initiate GIS use in the MPPCB may be by asking the Large or Mega Industrial projects exceeding investment of Rs.300/500 crore to submit their EIA reports in GIS format. This shall not only help us to build the Valuable Resource database but shall help develop skill sets to make better & appropriate use of GIS software. At the end
