Introduction Hi, I took a series of photos around my neighborhood to represent some of the vast and diverse ways that globalization has affected my area in terms of education, economy, trade, finances, and more, so enjoy!
Protection/Security
Protection/Security This aspect of globalization offers a more stable lifestyle for many citizens and especially those who dwell in my neighborhood. Many people fro my hood have dogs to secure their domain, while some nations that we discussed in class have boarders, federal government intervention, guns, military offense, and barbed wire. Some nations have no methods of security and one can assume those people live in fear. Protection and security is offered all throughout my neighborhood so many f us can sleep soundly at night. There are many alternatives as well such as home alarm systems, guard dogs, you can freely purchase firearms with proper identification and license as well thanks to the constitution.
Communications
Communications This is a large aspect of globalization since many nations don’t have these convenient means of transferring dialogue to one another in my neighborhood there are payphones mounted up in plenty of spaces though the majority of them aren't used often since 90 percent of the community has cell phones now. In the past some nations of people could not communicate with each other or their land was wrought between two areas with peoples who communicated in different languages such as the Norse who spoke a different language than the Vikings who inhabited Greenland. I am lucky to live in a community where 99 percent of the people all speak English and only a very small percentage Spanish albeit its spoken in only local corner stores. Thanks to these payphones, our lives are a lot more livable.
Transportation
Transit Septa, established in 1964 by the Pennsylvania legislature has greatly affected my hood in a globalization kind of way. Without these buses goods would be able to be transferred from one area to another, people wouldn’t be able to make it to their destinations, and the living conditions of my area would decrease significantly. People go places. Simple. Septa helps these people get to where they are going. In 1963 it wasn’t this convenient for people to travel to point a to point b. Nowadays there are planes as means of travel to further destinations but public transit decreases fuel emissions, saves money, and is conveniently stationed on mostly every block of my neighborhood.
Diversity
Diversity Diversity is enabled to the sheer amazing power of globalization. Years ago this kind of unity would be outraged in communities but thanks to laws, rallies, marches, and protest a white man and an Arab man can drink together without racial disputes occurring that would result in one or the other dead. In my hood individuals are free to be with whom they want to associate themselves with. Diversity is encouraged, and everyone is friendly for the most part, accepting of one another, and humble, though this isn't the case for every nation or neighborhood being as though many other parts are more strict when it comes to this sort of lenience of togetherness of 2 different ethnic backrounds.
Law
Law A huge aspect in globalization. Here I have a sign ensuring citizens walking their dogs to curb them and if not then a 300 dollar fine is feasible. Laws help bring stability to a neighborhood, you couldn’t have criminals running rampant so laws are established. Some laws include certain curfews around the neighborhood to make sure children are kept safe after a certain hour, as you can see there are laws to keep the sanitation of the community kept, and some. Laws are terrific.
Religion
Religion This is a picture of the billboard displayingmy hood’s church, “True Light.” Freedom of preach is ensured in my neighborhood. Religion is a huge aspect of living. In my neighborhood, Jehova’s Witnesses are free to pass out pamphlets informing pedestrians about their religion and beliefs. Anyone is free to express their religion in my neighborhood but that isn't always the case in every corner of the world. We all know of the tragic holocaust that’s befallen upon millions of Jews in the past, Muslims are placed under tight scrutiny due to past events such as 9/11, and terrorist attacks, and more.
Pollution
Pollution This picture graciously portrays the absence of pollution in my hood. Heavy industrialization has never been an issue here in Mount Airy/Germantown. Since there are no factories producing harmful toxins into the air, and harming the ozone layer and environment, we residents are blessed to have clear skies. Pollution is a huge ailing factor that destroys some nations like some we discussed in “Collapse” such as countries in Africa, remote islands, and other small nations that have been subject to industrialization.
Politics
Politics An essential role in globalization. This is a picture of a political ad placed into the wind shield of my mothers car. This simply expresses the freedom of politics in my community being as though someone can campaign publically in my hood, make an attempt for me to vote for this man/woman who they would prefer me to sway towards in terms of governmental issues. The government/politics plays a crucial role in community involvement, democracy, voicing everyone’s beliefs, ideals, and flexes the rhetorical muscles the average citizen has to woo the metaphorical sexy lady that is congress and higher ups like governors, presidential figures, and federals.
Economy
Mean Green Economy. Finances, industries, businesses, money, investments, people, goods, and more. Economy falls into all of these categories and has an affect on all of them whether positive or negative. Economy affects the flow or production, affects your kids, teachers, policeman, political figures and more. What I have here is a photo of an Ashley Stewart coupon and on it are items my mother purchased that were probably overpriced, manufactured with ill gotten materials and or materials salvaged from a poor kid who works for 10 cents an hour but that’s how many businesses work.
Education
Education Finally education. This is a picture of my neighborhood middle school Ada Lewis. This represent the freedom children have in my hood to learn though ironically it is not a school anymore. Its been shut down for a couple of years ago do to lack of funds and it was generally a bad school unfortunately but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t once a flourishing amazing institute of knowledge. Education lets children become leaders, doctors, professors, teachers, lawyers, scientists, and some. Depending on how the kid uses this resource, one can benefit from it greatly.
