2. 4 therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of
God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your
persecutions and afflictions which you endure. 5 This is a plain
indication of God's righteous judgment so that you will be considered
worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. 6
For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who
afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well
when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty
angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not
know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.

7. 11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain,
since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you
ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you
the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to
need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of
milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their
senses trained to discern good and evil.

How do we fare today when compared with our brethren of the 1st century and what they had to do endure, in order to, “righteously and godly in the present age?
But how do we live, “Righteously and godly in the present age” when the present age seems to be be getting more ungodly? This morning I plan to answer that question based on the text we find in Paul’s letter to the saints at Colossae.
The key to living righteously in a wicked society, is to always strive to be pleasing to Him in all respects.
One way Paul says, that we can be pleasing to Him is by, “Bearing fruit in every good work!” Fruit bearing involves more than denunciation of error! When we practice what we preach, our practicing becomes our loudest preaching. Paul said that we also walk in a manner worthy of Him when we increase in the knowledge of God.
Yet many Christians, are content to swim in shallow waters. We oftern shy away from any the meat of the word. “Increasing in the knowledge of God” requires more deep meditation and daily Bible study than many are willing to provide.
Each of us needs an ongoing program of daily Bible study. It will take time and tools. It will take the HUMILITY that admits, “I DON'T KNOW”, the DEDICATION that says, “I WILL WORK”and th TENACITY that says, “I WON'T QUIT!”It requires the DILIGENCE and the DISCIPLINE to turn off the TV or to close our Internet Browser and pick up God's Word and START STUDYING!!! The inovation of our modern day technology has robbed us of many skills, the ability to do that math in our heads rather than use our calculator app, the ability to think for ourselves rather than depend on some thing or someone to tell us what is right. Paul calls us each of us to turn our eyes from the things of this earth and focus on Heaven above.
With an ever increasing knowlede of God, and a mind pointed toward heaven, we can walk in a manner that is pleaing to Him
- >
This will not only improve our life but help to lead others to Christ and to LIFE ETERNAL - >
What better life long achievement could you acquire than being instrumental in leading someone else to life eternal???
Not only is this accomplish through a increased knowledge and learning of God's word but it is also coupled with a compassion for others.
This compassion only comes from following the example of our Savior!
The theme of Colossians is THE ALL SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST!
By imitating the life of Christ, WE BECOME COMPLETE!!!
Christ is the glue that holds all things together!
When He who holds the universe together, dwells in our harts by faith, we cah with Paul -->
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13
