3. Background Information
• Global population growth is unprecedented, with the
expected rise from 7.2 billion to 9.7 billion by 2050.
Majority of this population will still be youths, (UN,
2015).
• Of this population, more than one billion are
between ages of 15 to 25 (ILO, 2007).
• 85% of this population leave in developing countries,
meaning we are the most affected by
unemployment. Of this 60% are in rural areas

4. • Youth unemployment in Kenya is exacerbated by
limited financial inclusion which slows down
enterprise development (Equity Group Foundation,
n.d)
• Kenya aspires to grow its GDP by 10% in 2040 by
promoting value added agricultural production and
innovative entrepreneurship by young people (GoK,
2007).

5. Innovative Agricultural training program as an intervention
logic
• MSc Agrienterprise development is a new
collaborative graduate program hosted by Egerton
University (Kenya) and Gulu University (Uganda).
• The program is aimed to address low levels of
entrepreneurship among agricultural graduates in
Africa.
• The program integrates value chain analysis,
roundtable engagements and agrienterprise
development approaches to research.

as an intervention logic
• Graduates undertake research geared towards
driving agribusiness development and to influence
agribusiness policy formulation.
• The program emphasizes that the graduates should
