The document discusses aflatoxin test kits from F&S Scientific, including lateral flow and ELISA testing platforms. It provides details on the effectiveness, pricing, and applications of the Reveal Q+ lateral flow and Veratox ELISA kits for aflatoxin detection. The document also discusses F&S Scientific's active partnership with APTECA to promote accurate aflatoxin testing in East and Central Africa through proficiency testing and control programs.
3. Objectives

14. Lateral Flow
• Lateral Flow Immunochromatographic is a rapid assay in the test strip format.
• The test involves the binding of antigens (i.e. Aflatoxin)
FEATURE BENEFIT
• Simple protocol Easy to use
• Aflatoxin detection range : 2 – 150 ppb Low and high range detection ability
• Very short method Rapid tests (results in 6 minutes)
• Single sample analysis Ideal for low throughput
• Room temperature storage Reduces storage costs & time to equilibrate kits to
room temp.
• Room temperature incubation Lower initial cost to set up, no incubator
• Ethanol/Water extraction Simple & safe
• AccuScan Gold Reader Unique, easy-to-use colour touch screen reader.
• AccuScan Gold Data Manger software Traceability & data storage
• USDA/GIPSA Approved
18. ELISA
• Uses Antibodies/Antigen binding & Colour Change to measure the concentration of a substance
FEATURE BENEFIT
• Simple protocol Relatively easy to use
• Aflatoxin detection range = 1 – 50 ppb Low and high range detection ability
• Short method Fairly rapid tests (results in 15 minutes)
• Batch testing Ideal for running several tests at the same time
• Refrigerated storage
• Room temperature incubation Lower initial cost to set up, no incubator
• Methanol/Water extraction Simple & safe
• Stat-Fax Reader Easy-to-use colour touch screen reader.
• Veratox Data Manger software Traceability & data storage

Single-step lateral flow assays based on a competitive immunoassay format.
The extract is wicked through a reagent zone, which contains antibodies specific for the target Mycotoxin conjugated to colloidal gold particles.
If the target mycotoxin is present, it will be captured by the particle-antibody complex.
The mycotoxin-labeled antibody complex is then wicked onto a membrane, which contains a zone of mycotoxin. This zone captures any unbound mycotoxin antibody, allowing the particles to concentrate and form a visible line.
As the level of mycotoxin in a sample increases, free mycotoxin will bind with the antibody-gold particles. This allows less antibody-gold to be captured in the test zone.
Therefore, as the concentration of target mycotoxin in the sample increases, the test line density decreases.
The membrane also contains a control line which will always form regardless of the presence of mycotoxin, ensuring the strip is functioning properly.
Voluntary process verification for Aflatoxin risk management for grain handlers & millers.
