At the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dean
developed the career course "Using the Power of
Social Networks to Take Control of Your Career" and
instructed the first of 8 week course series to an
amazing group of Graduate Students. We used the
foundation of Social Business, Social Selling,
Relationship Marketing, Network Science (U.S.
Army), and Social and Emotional Intelligence to
support their lessons. We are proud to say that all are
experiencing fantastic results in their career
movements. The average placement rate of students
who follow the program achieve a 91% placement
rate.

Looking Good with a Great Profile

At the beginning of 2014, I attended one of Dean's
sessions about how to enhance my LinkedIn profile. I
followed the 20 minutes a day program ….in fact, it wasn't
very hard and didn't take a lot of time, but wow! The
results of that time spent were phenomenal!
About a month after working with his program on building
my professional network, recruiters started sending me job
descriptions and asking me to meet with them. Although I
wasn't looking for a job at the time, one particular job
caught my attention and I decided to go for it. My new job
pays me 33% more than I was making, offers tuition
assistance, and a lot of other benefits I didn't have at my
previous position.
In fact, it's 4 months later and I still have recruiters
sending me messages and asking me to look at positions
at least twice a month! The sky is the limit!

The use of social media for for recruitment has grown 54% in the the past 5 years. A recent
SHRM study found that 84 percent of organizations are now recruiting on social media; only 56
percent of companies were hiring on social media in 2011. (SHRM)
82 percent of respondents reported leveraging social media to recruit managers, and 87 percent
said they recruit other salaried employees using social platforms. (SHRM)
79 percent of job seekers use social media in their job search. This figure increases to 86 percent
for younger job seekers who are in the first 10 years of their careers. (Glassdoor)
About 1 in 5 have applied for a job they learned about through social media, and 13 percent of
social media users say information they’ve posted on social media helped them get a
job2. (Glassdoor)
About 28 percent of job seekers—including 53 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds—have used a
smartphone as part of a job search
