3. TECHNOLOGICAL
EVOLUTION???
Read and take notes from the following article :
Wikipedia: Technological Evolution
DO SCANNING on:
Theory of technological evolution
DO SKIMMING on:
Stages of technological development
Theoretical implications
4. QUESTION 1:
How does technology evolution cause
political, social and environmental
changes?
6. TECHNOLOGY R-EVOLUTION
Technological evolution causes political, social
and environmental changes. There is a direct
correlation between development of technology
and changes in history.
Technology allows humans to conquer their world;
this causes evolution as
cultures, ideas, people, but physical landscapes
are destroyed. Also, technology allows humans to
thrive and become more successful in their own
society.
7. Stages of technological
development
According to Richta and later Bloomfield,[1][2]
technology evolves in three stages:
Tools
Machine
Automation.
^ Bloomfield, Masse. Mankind In Transition; A View of the Distant Past, the Present
and the Far Future, Masefield Books, 1993.
^ Bloomfield, Masse. The Automated Society, Masefield Books, 1995.
8. This evolution follows two trends:
The replacement of physical labour with more
efficient mental labour, and
More control over natural environment.
(including an ability to transform raw materials into
ever more complex and flexible products.)

10. First (1st) Stage of
technological development
The first technological stage was the creation
of a TOOL. This provides a mechanical
advantage in accomplishing a physical
task, and must be powered by human or
animal effort.
11. Look at this model:
PAST TENSE
The importance of tools..
VOICE ACTIVE PASSIVE
SINGULAR
The container stored
water.
The spear could reach
long distances
water was stored in the
Container .
Long distances were reached
by the spear
PLURAL
The knifes killed animals.
Arrows were sharp and
fast to hunt animals.
Animals were killed by knifes.
Animals were hunted by sharp
and fast arrows.
12. Hammer ,
Knife,
Plow,
And Find 2 more…
Evidence 1: Explain why these tools were so
important for human and technology evolution.
>>>Use the model described in the previous slide.
13. The creation of the MACHINE
For Example:
Second (2nd) Stage of
technological development
14. Evidence 2:
a. Read the article and identify the
definition, main characteristics and types of
machines. >>MACHINES<<
b. Watch the video:
1. Before industrial revolution – Read the
transcription, complete the chart and practice
15. The third, and final stage of technological
evolution is the AUTOMATION.
The automation is a machine that removes the
element of human control with control systems
and information technologies to optimize
productivity in the production of goods and
delivery of services.
*Watch the VIDEO Can you guess what industries
and products do they show in there?
Third (3rd) Stage of
technological development
16. For Example:
They can be:
Automatic
Semi-automatic
Can you identify them??
Digital Watch
Coffee Machine
Semaphore
Smart phone
Pace maker
ATM
a.
b.
c.
d.
e. f.
17. Evidence 3: Give 10 more examples of
Automation today, explain their FUNCTIONALITY
Use SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE:grammar reference: HERE
Examples:
A semaphone controlS the traffic. (sing.)
A watch tellS the time (sing.)
Coffee Machines make expressos. (pl.)
18. UNIT WRAP-UP: Watch the video about Evolution of
technology and discuss your ideas with the class:
VIDEO
>>Write as many words as possible from the video
and share.
19. In the Automation stage, the evolution of
machines are called:
DEVICES
In computing, the devices can be divided
into:
INPUT
OUTPUT
STORAGE
