1. UNCCD reporting process
• Letters to SST and NFP have had different impacts yet but
have started a relationship
• In some rare cases the NFP was just changed or did not
respond
• In many cases the contact was welcome but the new
webbased format was not yet well known and did not allow
further contribution
• In some cases more direct exchange was established by
phone or letter
• In some cases there was a real contribution from DESIRE to
the national report process ( still ongoing), and mutual
participation in workshops or national committee
• As a conclusion : the contact should be kept on long term,
there is an opportunity to interact if the deadline is
postponed (mid november ?) . DESIRE has made its job as a
scientific consortium

Some comments…
• The issues mentioned are very different
according to SS but are all more or less related
to processes rather than techniques
• Most of them are not strictly based on the
scientific results or findings but on the lessons
learned in practice during the DESIRE process
• DESIRE seems to have built more legitimacy in
the SS for expressing a wider point of vue on
local SLM
• The economic aspects cannot be avoided and
are directly or indirectly adressed

Next steps
• Workshop on writing policy messages in
China
• Joint development of policy brief with each
site: preferably ready for CRIC in February
• Publication: all policy briefs with analysis
