To work with teams and work groups is one of the critical
aspects of the Organization Development process because
Organization Development believes that teams are the most
important factor which helps in building organization.
Appreciation of importance of work teams comes from
cultural anthropology, sociology, organization theory and
social psychology.
A team is a formation of group but has some different
characteristics which are unusual than the ordinary groups,
including commitment to form common goals and
interdependency and interaction. It is this commitment
which differentiates a team than just a group.
The characteristics of the effective team
can be
 The culture tends to relaxed and comfortable.
 The group task is well understood and accepted by
team members.
 People express both their feelings and ideas.
 Conflicts and Disagreement are present but are
centered around ideas and methods.
 Decisions are usually based on consensus and not
majority vote.
Teamwork is a process that constantly be assessed and
restructured to help teams to achieve their goals efficiently
and effectively. Employees are always treated as the assets
of the organization and its success is directly related to the
hard work of every employee. Members should contribute
their work in bit different way and always be motivated to
give their best individually and in team as well. Team
Building feature increase the trust factor among the
employees.
The basic start is done through setting the goals which are
accepted by every member of the team. It starts with the
discussion altogether which is the step towards evolving with
new ideas and agreed to follow the same. A team has been set
up to achieve the set of prescribed goals. The time should be
spent for discussing the task and should have the opportunity
to negotiate them with their management.
The team should have the right mix of skills which should
be brought to the task at hand. The members of the team
need to have problem solving and decision making skills
as well as technical skills.
The team needs to agree on set of rules and ensure that their
efforts are purposeful and all the members contribute to
work. The most critical rules pertain to attendance, open
discussion and analytical approach. This will ensure that
work is done well and done on time. For team to be able to
develop an appropriate strategy, it must have a clear
definition of the problem. Team activities are in fact a
powerful vehicle for building skills. The implementation
should include the achievement of a range of performance
improvement goals.
Key points of the effective and
successful team:
(a) Motivation and encouragement is the key factor of the
successful team.
(b) The proper goal setting and shared them with
members is the another factor.
(c) Criticizing must be avoided at any level of discussion.
(d) Prefer to communicate each task, decision to every
member through mails or any into writing.
(e) The decision maker is everybody, the team leader
should not decide solely.
(f) Employee Engagement activity or fun activity can also
be preferred in the team to share each other's views and
thoughts.
(g) To accomplish goals the set of targets are made for members
to achieve it in the given time.
(h) Feedback can be the best way to recheck or revise any
decision before implementing.
(i) At last, building cooperation avoiding conflicts is the major
input by every team member.
