Inge Ignatia de Waard

Document on subject to be found here.
10. Benefits
• higher flexibility in terms of location
• higher flexibility in terms of timing
• Reduce some anxiety
• proctoring tools as a more secure setup for knowledge-
reproduction exams
• extra exam-facility (post-COVID)
• Athletes on remote training camps or competitions
• Disabled students who cannot make it to class
• Learners facing long-term illness
11. Downsides
• English language dominates Proctoring tools
• Teachers need to build trust
• practical limitations: sketches, drawings, … must be
seen individually by the teacher.
• a lot of preparatory work from different
stakeholders
• A specific helpdesk needs to be put in place from
central administration supporting teachers
12. Involving stakeholders
• Constant reevaluation of the best systems
• LTI and API compliant
• Setting up support
• Choosing the right tool
• Considering in-house proctors or external proctors
• Does university or company policy allow it?
• Are student contracts covering online exams to earn their
degree?
• Do you have an LMS or LXP installed?
19. Benefits
Benefits of open book exams
combine different concepts towards a solution
Show bigger picture,
Qualitative and quantitative data interpretation
broader array of evaluating a students knowledge
Fits 21st century skills as an integral part
20. Downsides
Grading open book exams takes time, no current
automation
lacks in-depth fact responses
demands prior knowledge
less straight forward grading
27. How does it work?
• External and internal experts
• Team presentation with individual parts of the whole
project
• Feedback to the project and individuals tasks
• Open discussion (testing understanding)
• Individual Q&A (key theory, concepts)
• Grading
29. Downsides
• It takes time as multiple people are involved
• The grading is based on the interpretation of the
examiners
• The personalities of the team members can differ,
so that some might come across more anxious or
timid than others.
32. What is the purpose of an exam or
any learning evaluation
during and post COVID?
Enhance Self-
Directed Learning
Increase self
evaluation capacity
Give rise to Ethical
Problem Solvers
