1.3 HISTORY
Kaki Printing began in Kuantan area in 2009 when Encik Daniel Zainal together with his
three friends who had just finished their studies in UniversitiTeknologi Malaysia, Melaka got a
brilliant idea to setup a printing or photocopy services named Kaki Printing. Due to their financial
constraint, at the first place they managed to start their business with only two photocopy machines
the services that they could provide were only photocopy and printing services.
The business showed good performance, however due to some difficulties that been faced by
his three friends then they decided to not to stay in the company anymore. Despite from all
difficulties, Encik Daniel Zainal still wanted to keep the business run even without his other business
partners. With his courage and determinations and also support from his family, he never give up and
always keep on trying to improve his photocopy and printing business for a better.
3. After few years, due to his high business performances plus good services that been given to
all his customers it then encourage him to open some new branches which are in Universiti Putra
Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaya (UM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM),
Kuantan campus and finally the latest is in International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM),
Gombak campus which was just operate it business in 8 August 2015.
On top of that, Encik Daniel Zainal also decided to change his business name from Kaki
Printing to Kaki Copy that was used till today. Until today, Kaki Copy Sdn. Bhd. had achieved many
improvement in its business for instances, there are about 7 to 8 photocopy and printing machines
that it had in every branches. Plus, what make Kaki Copy business different from other photocopy
and printing business is that Kaki Copy provided various services other than just photocopy and
printing like making banner for any events, t-shirt printing services and making rubber stamp.
1.4 LEGAL STATUS
Eight years ago, Kaki Copy was known as Kaki Printing. Kaki Printing was registered as a
partnership business between Encik Daniel Zainal and his two other friends. However, since three
years ago, Kaki Printing has dissolved its partnership and changed its status to sole-proprietorship
which solely owned by Encik Daniel Zainal. Encik Daniel Zainal decided to continue the printing
legacy and start the business back from the beginning. He changed the business name to Kaki Copy
and registered the business with the Companies Commissions of Malaysia (SSM) as a sole-
proprietorship type of business. Today, Kaki Copy printing business is solely owned by DZ Creative
Venture Sdn. Bhd.

6. 2.0 COMMON EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
2.1 GOVERNMENT AND THE RELATED AGENCIES
Based on minimum rate of wages that been imposed by the government which is RM 900 per
worker, as the manager of Kaki Copy in IIUM branch, Encik Khairudin explained that Kaki Copy is
implementing the rule to their workers. Plus, he said that the amount of wages that been paid to their
permanent workers who work at Kaki Copy IIUM branch is RM 1,200 per month which was slightly
higher than the minimum rate of wages. On the other side, for part time workers the wages is
RM3.30 per hour. Encik Khairudin always want to ensure that every workers that worked at Kaki
Copy in IIUM branch been treated fairly and happy to work with the company.
On top of that, as a businessman for sure Encik Khairudin cannot escape from dealing with
the goods and services tax or well known as GST. In Malaysia, the implementation of GST is quite
new andit was started on1 April 2015 last year. Besides, the implementation of GST by the
government is part of the government tax’s reform programme in order to enhance the capability,
effectiveness and also transparency of tax management and administration.
As the manager, Encik Khairudin explained that Kaki Copy did not faced many difficulties
even when the GST had been introduced. It is because Kaki Copy Printing and Photocopy business
always tried their best in order to adjust the GST itself with the prices of goods and services that they
been provided to their beloved customers. Plus, Kaki Copy also still maintain the old prices of some
goods and services that their business provided same like before the GST was imposed.
Encik Khairudin mentioned that those are the ways that been applied in order to make sure
that their customers will always come to Kaki Copy and feel happy to use their services even after
the implementation of GST.
7. 2.2 MEDIA
Kaki Copy did not spend much on using the medias for advertising. They do have a website
but did not put much effort on maintaining and promoting the website with a reason that the business
does not need them to find and hire the customers yet the customers are the one who should seek for
their services. Beside the website, Kaki Copy also owned a facebook page to promote their products.
However, the fanpage was also not well-maintained. The manager mentioned that the business did
not get much from the online promotion yet, most of the sales are actually coming from the outlets
operation.
2.3 NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION (NGOs)
So far, Kaki Copy does not involve with any non-government organization (NGOs).
2.4 ECONOMY
Kaki Copy is not much affected by the current situation of economic downturn where the
price of the products increases but the income level remains same. Thus, customers lost their
purchasing power and tend to save more than spending more . Since printing services has been part
of the necessities for the students, unlike other businesses, Kaki Copy manage to maintain their sales
during the economic downturn. Students and lecturers, are both has the needs to print out and
photocopy the assignments, paperworks, handouts, reading materials and etc throughout the semester
regardless of the bad economic condition.
Even though Kaki Copy uses some machines which imported from Japan, the current
depreciation of Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) compared to Japanese Yen (JPY) did not affect the total
maintenance cost of the machine since there is a branch of that brand located in Petaling Jaya. Since
the store is located in Malaysia, they use Malaysian Ringgit for the transaction and do not involve the
Japanese Yen at all.
8. 2.5 POLITIC
Since Kaki Copy’s target market are mainly focused in the education sectors (due to its
strategic location), the current unstable politic condition in Malaysia does not really affect the
operation of the business. However, whenever the Malaysia General Election (PRU) comes by, the
sales made at Kaki Copy may be a little bit higher than usual but not much since Kaki Copy is just a
small company which makes it harder to get a contract from politicians. On the other hand, College
General Election (PRK) gave a higher turnover to the Kaki Copy compared to PRU due to its
strategic location which located within four major public universities in Malaysia.
2.6 TECHNOLOGY
In terms of technology, it would be one of the strengths of any printing service to provide
internet connection because there are not so many shops that offer internet access. Like Kaki Copy, it
offers internet service which makes it one of their privileges. By providing internet access through all
the computers for printing, it will give customers more convenience to use the services offered.
Other than that, all printing services need to protect their computers with antivirus to prevent
computers from damages which will cause harm to the owner as well as to the customers.
2.7 SOCIOCULTURAL/DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS
When we talk about sociocultural or demographic, there are so many factors that can be taken
into consideration. One of it is age. Because Kaki Copy is located inside Universities, their target is
the students and also the lecturers. They have no problem handling the customers because most of
them are already technology literate. They do not have to teach the customers on how to use the
computer or how to print. This is also one of the company’s strengths.
Next, in terms of ethnicity, country of origin, skin color, and languages spoken, IIUM has
variety of different people coming from different countries around the world. Of course they speak
many different languages and the medium of interaction is using English or Arabic only. It will be
9. hard to conduct business if the workers cannot speak English or Arabic. However, most of
KakiCopy’s workers are student who are doing part time job there and most of them know how to
speak English. If not, the management will teach or ask them to learn Basic English for business
purposes.
2.8 INFRASTRUCTURE
In terms of infrastructure, the external infrastructure such as the road for transportation really
helps the business to deliver their finished goods to the customer. The delivery only made if the
customer ordered in high quantity within area Gombak only. Other infrastructure such as
telecommunication works but only for customer to make appointment with the employee in charge to
arrange some sorts of design for example the banner design. The details of the criteria are explained
during face to face meeting with the designer.
2.9 INTERNATIONAL
One and only assets that is imported is the photocopy machine which is the business buy it in
a few terms and not a regular basis. Let say Japan are having natural disaster that would not affect
the business so much in the sense that the business can operate their regular activity as usual. In
terms of maintenance, the owner said that they would sent to the shop in Petaling Jaya area to fixed
it.
