DESTINATION IS CONFIRMED
Barry Kennedy
Many, if not most, have travelled at one point in their lives. We travel for
vacations, work, athletics, and a host of many other reasons as well. Sometimes the
trip itself is one of the most enjoyable parts of all; however, there are those other
times when we cannot wait to reach our destination. These are the trips where the
child is in the back seat saying, âAre we there ye?â Of course, almost everyone
would have to agree that after a long trip there is nothing like the feeling of
knowing our âDESTINATION IS CONFIRMED.â Of course, we all should be
striving to confirm that our destination is Heaven. Imagine leaving home to go on
a vacation and never consulting a map, or even considering any directions as to
where you are going. That would not seem very intelligent, not to mention the
odds are that the only destination that would be confirmed is LOST. Sadly, lost is
the destination that Jesus said the majority of mankind would reach. âEnter ye in at
the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to
destruction, and many there be (Emph mine BK) which go in thereat: Because strait
is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that
find itâ (Matthew 7:13, 14). Is there a way for the child of God to know that his
DESTINATION IS CONFIRMED?
Yes, if we will TRUST God. We place our trust in so many things without
really having a reason. We trust our water is pure, our food is safe, our insurance
will pay, and that our government is on our side. Wow! To put this in writing even
shocks the author. What is the point? People want to trust in some things to the
point that there is not a lot of research done concerning trustworthiness. Yet some
of these same trusting people cannot bring themselves to âTRUST God.â All
throughout the Bible, beginning in the very first book Genesis, God set forth the
âIF THENâ policy. Adam if you eat of the tree of knowledge, then you will die
(Genesis 2:17). This principle is not only used to emphasize the negative, or
condemnation aspect, but also the blessing of faithfulness as well.
Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye
obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you
this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD
your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go
after other gods, which ye have not known (Deuteronomy 11:26-28).
This is still true under the New Testament law as well. âIf we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if
we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sinâ (1 John 1:6, 7).

âIfâ sets forth the conditional aspect of the scripture.
Confidence comes from the trust that God will do
as He has promised. Can we really trust in God?
âIn hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie
(Emph. Mine BK), promised before the world
began;â (Titus 1:2). Paul wrote to give hope that
Titusâs DESTINATION IS CONFIRMED.
Some may confuse this idea by thinking
this is Calvinism, i.e. âonce saved, always saved.â
To understand this better it helps to consider
Paulâs letter to the Romans. âFor we are saved by
hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a
man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope
for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for
itâ (Romans 8:24, 25). Our destination is to be
Heaven, but we cannot see Heaven on this side of
eternity. However, we can have hope of Heaven
through faith. âNow faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not seenâ
(Hebrews 11:1). Salvation is clearly conditional
(Galatians 5:4; 6:7, 8). Therefore, confirmation of
our destination is also conditional. Peter told the
Jewâs in Jerusalem,âSave yourselves from this
untoward generationâ (Acts 2:40). Peter exhorted
them to act upon the knowledge that they were
given and change their destination from Hellâs
torment to Heavenâs paradise.
God has done so much to confirm His desire
for manâs destiny (John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2
Peter 3:9). Have we grown too accustomed to
hearing about the cross that we fail to actually see
what/Who has been sacrificed for our lives. Jesus is
the âGood Shepherdâ who gave HIS life for the
sheep (John 10:11). Truly understanding this fact
will take away any of the doubts that Satan will try
to sow in our hearts. It is a fearful thing to not
know where one is going, or to know that he is
going to a place of punishment. God does not want
His people living in fear. On the contrary, He
expects man to have a sound mind (2 Timothy
1:7). That sound mind comes from knowing our
âDESTINATION IS CONFIRMED.â Is yours?
