3. Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool
returneth to his folly.
2 Peter 2 22 But it is happened unto them according
to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own
vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her
wallowing in the mire.
Peter explains of whom he speaks in

the verses just prior to this:

2 Peter 2 20 For if after they have
escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, they are again
entangled therein, and overcome, the
latter end is worse with them than the
beginning. 21 For it had been better for
them not to have known the Way of
Righteousness, than, after they have
known it, to turn from the Holy
Commandment delivered unto them.

5. They are people who have heard the
Truth and understood it, but did not
accept Jesus as Savior and Lord.
They returned to their old habits that are filthy

and vile as a dog eating vomit or a pig
wallowing in his own filth.
Jesus said, “Ye must be born again.”
Born of the Spirit of God into the family of God.

6. 12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there
is more hope of a fool than of him.
He thinks he is smart, and does not

need The Lord or His Word.
God’s Word tells us how to
have eternal life, and how to
live an abundant life.
There is no other way.

7. 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the
way; a lion is in the streets. 14 As the door turneth
upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it
grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. 16 The
sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven
men that can render a reason.
A lazy man will work harder to get out of work,

than he would have to do the work.

A lazy man will make any
excuse to avoid getting out
and going to work.
A lazy man seems to be
fastened to the bed as a
door to its hinges.

9. He won’t keep a steady job; there’s always a

He thinks that he is too smart to work hard.
problem and he quits or gets fired.
He will suffer much loss,
thanks to his laziness.

10. 17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife
belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog
by the ears.
To grab a strange dog by the ears

is to risk being bitten.
To butt into other people’s arguments is taking
a big risk; they may both turn on you.

11. Mind your own business.
NIV 1 Thessalonians 4 11-12 Make it your ambition
to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and
to work with your hands, just as we told you, so
that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders
and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

18 As a mad man who casteth fire-brands, arrows,
and death, 19 So is the man that deceiveth his
neighbor, and saith, Am not I in sport?
One who lies to his neighbor and then sees
that he made his neighbor mad,
Might say, “I was just joking.”
He has already stirred up the trouble.
