1. www.rossvillechurch.com 2-9-11 We are a small (20 folks), friendly congregation of God-loving, people-loving, worship-loving, Bible-loving children of God. We would love to have you come and worship with us. No need to dress up, just come as you are; God doesn't look at the outward appearance, and neither do we. 781 Salem Road, Rossville GA
2. 1 John 5 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
3. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the Name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the Name of the Son of God. This verse refers to the previous verses, and is speaking of the assurance of salvation . Christians can be confident of our salvation because we rest upon the Promises of God.
4. "and that ye may believe on the Name of the Son of God." John says he is writing to believers , and yet adds this phrase . It seems redundant, but isn't . He is fixing to speak of prayer , and we must believe, not only to be saved for eternity, But to have our prayers answered day by day.
5. 14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His Will , He heareth us: and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. Many factors enter into answered prayer , and this is some of the chief.
6. First of all, we must ask . Matthew 7 7 -8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. John 14 13-14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in My Name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it .
7. (Again) 14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His Will , He heareth us: and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. Secondly, we must pray according to the Will of God. When we pray outside of God's Will, He doesn't listen .
8. We can know the Will of God for most things by simply studying our Bible . We know better than to pray for good success in robbing a bank. We would never pray for another man's wife. But when we aren't sure what God would have us do in a situation --
9. We must pray in the Spirit of God. Romans 8 26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the Mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the Will of God . When we pray in the Spirit, we pray according to the Will of God. When we pray according to God's Will, He hears our prayer.
10. God loves His children. He wants to bless us with every good thing. (Again) 14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His Will , He heareth us: and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him . When we desire a good thing, anything that is within God's Will, and His Will is Good, Then God will grant the desire of our heart.
11. Proverbs 3 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Psalms 37 4-5 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.
12. God answers prayer that He may bless His children, and that He may be glorified. 3 John 1 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. No one sees God; they see His children. As we are blessed, He is glorified. Everyone wants to be loved , to be happy , to be at peace , and these are God's blessing.
