Q3: IS IT NEW?

In 2016, more than 57 Million
votes were cast by mail.
Nope. It’s not new.
A lot of people have been been
voting by mail for decades.
All 50 state have some early or
absentee voting by mail, though it’s
often restricted to certain people
and circumstances.

Q4: But is it
secure?

In some ways it is more secure.
It is harder to hack.
There is a complete paper trail.
Yes.
voting by mail
is as secure as
in-person voting.

Q5: But what
about fraud?

Voter fraud is RARE.
•  Bi-partisan studies covering almost 20 years of
voting found only a few hundred votes, out of
billions that were determined to be improper.
•  That’s about 0.00003% of both mail and in-
person ballots.
•  Most accusations of fraud turn out to be clerical
errors.

Q6: What about
other kinds of
cheating?

•  There is no evidence that Vote By Mail
makes cheating more likely.
•  It may even help prevent some of it.
Most attempts to
manipulate results are
driven by political
operatives, not voters.
States can tighten already strict ballot
rules that discourage cheating and put
cheaters in jail .

Q7: How do
they verify
ballots?

Every ballot is
bar-coded, and
checked by hand.
The barcode says which voter should be using that
specific ballot. Kind of like a concert ticket.
A bipartisan team verifies every ballot.
They check the voter’s ID and signature against
their signature on file.
Questionable ballots aren’t counted unless the
voter verifies in person.

Q8: Is vote by
mail a big
advantage for
Democrats?

No.
Neither party gets an advantage.
Utah, Georgia, Arizona, Texas and other Republican-
leaning states all have a high % of Vote By Mail. So do
California, Oregon and Washington.
Voters vote for the candidates they want.

Q9: Does
VoteByMail
increase turnout?

Various studies show that
Vote By Mail boosts turnout
between 3% and 5%.
Yes, a little.

Q10:
Can I vote by
mail now?

It depends on
the rules in
your state.
Probably.
Most states allow people to apply to receive a
ballot by mail. Some have restrictions on who is
eligible to get an early or absentee ballot.
If you are an eligible voter, in a state that allows
it, have internet access, and are comfortable
with slightly confusing websites, then yes.

eligible and request
a ballot :

They’ll prompt you for your location,
then link you to the right page on
your state’s site:

Do it today so you
don’t forget.
Most states have strict
deadlines that are earlier than
you think!

When you get your ballot:
Follow the directions CAREFULLY:
-  Fill in everything
-  Sign everywhere you need to.
-  Include your ID as indicated

Mail your ballot back!
There may be official drop off places in
your community.
KNOW THE RULES!
They are on your ballot.
This is the best protection against any cheating.
DON’T FORGET – There is a strict deadline. If
you’re late your ballot won’t be counted.
(Unreturned ballots are a bummer.)

•  Call your Senators and Reps
•  Contact your Governor
