grow up in all aspects into Him
who is the head, even Christ." So
that "we are no longer...tossed
here and there...by every wind of
doctrine." They may be
downloaded and modified free of

God bless you as you examine His Word,
Your servant in Christ, 2Cor. 4:5,
Dave Matthew 10:8 …Freely
you received, freely give.
4. Acts 19:35-41
• “The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: "Men
of Ephesus…you ought to be quiet and not do
anything rash…39 If there is anything further you
want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal
assembly. 40 As it is, we are in danger of being
charged with rioting because of today's events. In
that case we would not be able to account for
this commotion, since there is no reason for it."
41 After he had said this, he dismissed the
assembly.”
5. Acts 20:1, Off To Macedonia
• Acts 20:1 When the uproar had ended, Paul
sent for the disciples and, after encouraging
them, said good-by and set out for
Macedonia.
6. Acts 18:23, End Of 3rd.
Missionary Journey
• We are on the
green line
9. Acts 20:4-5, Luke Re-joins Paul
• Acts 20:4-6 He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus
from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica,
Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and
Trophimus from the province of Asia. 5 These men went on
ahead and waited for us at Troas. 6 But we sailed from
Philippi after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and five days
later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven
days.
• Seems like Luke was separated vs.4, and now regroups vs.5
• Remember back in; Acts 18:18 Paul stayed on in Corinth for
some time. Then he left the brothers and sailed for Syria,
accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila….
10. Acts 20:7, Church
• NAU Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week, when we
were gathered together to break bread, Paul began
talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he
prolonged his message until midnight.
• When did they come together?
• NAU 1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week
each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may
prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.
• Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling
together…
• George Swinnock has said, “Satan watcheth for those
vessels that sail without a convoy.”
11. Acts 20:7,
The First Day Of The Week
• 1st NT use of “the first day of the week” was
Resurrection Sunday in Matthew 28:1, “Now
after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward
the first day of the week,…”
• That starts it and the church continues it.
• On a calendar:
• "Use of term Sunday' for reference only. No
meteorological warranties expressed or
implied."
12. Acts 20:7, The First Day Of The Week
• Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week….
• Some believe that they would have met on
Sat. night after sundown.
• Acts 20:7…Paul …kept on talking until
midnight.
• He possibly preached from sundown to
midnight!
• They probably awoke around sunrise.
13. Acts 20:7-10, Long Sermons
• Nancy Stoffregen Depa tells, “My grade school
daughter, Emily, fidgeted nonstop during our new
pastor's first sermon. After 20 minutes of sighing
and wiggling, she turned to me and whispered,
"Mom, does this guy get paid to do this?" I smiled
and nodded my head. Ten more minutes passed
and his sermon still wasn't close to conclusion.
Again, Emily tugged at my arm and in a low voice
said,
• "How much?”
14. Acts 20:8-10,
Bible Knowledge Commentary
• Bible Knowledge Commentary, on Acts 20:8-10, says,
“The presence of many lamps would contribute to a
soporific atmosphere because the lamps consumed
oxygen. Probably crowded conditions exacerbated the
condition.
• “A young man named Eutychus (lit., "fortunate")
proved to be true to his name. Luke, the physician,
affirmed that Eutychus was picked up dead after he
had fallen from a third-story window. It was normal for
the larger rooms to be on the top floor of a building
(see comments on Acts 1:13). After the manner of
Elijah and Elisha (1 Kings 17:21; 2 Kings 4:34-35), Paul
embraced Eutychus and the young man came alive.”
15. Dwelling House

Forum Of
Trajan, Rome.
Cf. Acts 20:9
16. Acts 20:11-12, Talking Until Daylight
• Acts 20:11-12…After talking until daylight, he
left. 12 The people took the young man home
alive and were greatly comforted.
• Paul preached from 6 up to 12 hours straight.
Don’t panic when we run over!
• He was “raised from the dead.” Not
resurrected into a glorified state.
17. Acts 20:7, 11-12,
Preach Till
Midnight
Then Continued
Until Daylight
18. Acts 20:13, Sailing For Assos
• Acts 20:13 We went on ahead to the ship and
sailed for Assos, where we were going to take
Paul aboard. He had made this arrangement
because he was going there on foot.
20. Acts 20:13-15,
Bible Knowledge Commentary
• Acts 20:13-15 Evidently Paul remained in Troas longer
than he originally planned (v. 7). To compensate for the
delay he sent the rest of the party on ahead. The journey
across land from Troas to Assos is much shorter than by
sea. By this arrangement Paul was able to stay a bit longer
in Troas. They sailed from Assos to Mitylene... Chios...
Samos and Miletus. The voyage to the last three stops took
one day each.
• Barnes' Notes says “The distance to it from Troas by land
was about 20 miles, while the voyage round Cape Lecture
was nearly twice as far, and accordingly Paul chose to go to
it on foot.”
• Paul wanted to spend a little longer with the church so he
hiked from Boonville to Ukiah!
21. Acts 20:14-16, Assos To Miletus
• Acts 20:14-16
…Assos…Mitylene…Kios…Samos…Miletus.
23. Assos is located in a region of Mysia (northwest Asia
Minor) called Troad. It is built on a great volcanic cone
700 feet high, making it a well-fortified site with both
natural and artificial terraces.
• These city walls were
constructed by the
Greeks in the fourth
century B.C. and are
very well preserved.
28. Acts 20:15, Miletus
• Paul visited Miletus for a day or two as he
waited for his messengers to return with the
Ephesian elders (Acts 20:15).
29. The theater of Miletus was built in the 4th
century B.C. after Alexander the Great defeated
the Persians who controlled the city.
30. The theater benches are decorated with animal legs
and paws along the aisles. Nearby one of the seats
has a Greek inscription which reads "to the
Jews." Other evidences attest to the presence of a
Jewish population in Miletus in the first century.
31. Acts 20:17, 28, Elders, Shepherds
• Acts 20:17 From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the
elders [presbuteros] of the church.

rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure
sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears
tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers
in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn
away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to
myths. 5 But you, be sober in all things, endure
hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your

us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve
them,' 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that
dreamer of dreams…. 5 "But that prophet or that dreamer of
dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion
against the LORD…
• NAU Jeremiah 23:16 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to
the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are
leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own
imagination, Not from the mouth of the LORD. 17 "They keep saying
to those who despise Me, 'The LORD has said, "You will have peace
"'; And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own
heart, They say, 'Calamity will not come upon you.‘
47. Acts 20:29,
Biblically, What Are Wolves?
• Shabbat Inspiration In this week's Bible portion,
God warns us not to follow a false prophet even
if he seems able to perform overt miracles. How
can one distinguish whom to follow and who is
misleading? God is very clear on this point – if a
message is inherently false, then regardless of the
wonders and miracles performed, this man will
be deemed a false prophet. God has already
given us His commandments, and will never
change them. Just as God redeemed His nation
and performed unbelievable miracles in Egypt, He
alone is sovereign over the world, and we must
only follow Him!
48. Acts 20:29-30, How’d They Get In?
• Acts 20:29-31 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will

circumcision.

Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform
many miracles?‘ 23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I
never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO
PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.‘
