The concept of “Big Data” has drawn a considerable attention from researchers in information sciences, policy and decision makers in governments and enterprises such a new scientific paradigm is emerging as Data Intensive Scientific Discovery (DISD). The speed of growing excessive data causes great troubles to a wide range of fields and sectors from economic and business to public administration, from national security to scientific researches in many areas as it makes potential values and brilliant opportunities. Therefore, decision makers have a strong tendency to manage this growth, in particular from the viewpoint of data capture, data storage, data analysis and data visualization. This presentation aims to review deeply the current literature and classify tools, techniques and technologies using to handle the data deluge. After that, it have focused on reviewing and discussing insights and applications of big data benefits in smart cities such as traffic data centers, information transportation systems, citizen demands and etc.

Robert Scholz presented the importance to investigate concepts, which enable the unification and the common understanding and the replication of ICT architectures. He pointed out how to achieve an unified approach which aims to fulfill complex and integrative ICT solutions for Smart Cities. The presented approach aims to base on the idea of openness with 1) respect to interfaces 2)software components and 3) data. It was shown that those are seen as the main ingredient of an ICT eco-system for Smart Cities.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
