  1. First – a blog is just a Web site – let’s look at a blog so I can show you some of the major differences. The first thing I want you to notice is the dates on the posts. Blogs tend to be informational sites. The focus is on showing the most up to date content so the content is displayed chronologically. The home page displays the most recent post and as you scroll down the page the posts go back in time. Readers are looking for information, current information – so that is presented first and then if you go over to the right – you’ll see the categories. Readers can go here to search through the archives for additional information about a topic. The next thing I want you to notice is the fact that none of the posts we’ve see have mentioned any of Deluxe’s products. The blog is focused on education not selling. It has placed sharing helpful information at the forefront. Next thing that differentiates a blog which we can see here is if you look at one of the posts you’ll actually see a byline, a signature. Can you imagine on a business site if the Services page was signed? Or each product page on Amazon was signed by it’s copywriter? Blogs tend to be far more personal. This is largely because of the last item I want you to notice. As we look around we see a lot of ways to interact. Another interesting difference – you can actually post a comment on the blog. Again – imaging being able to post a comment on someone’s services page! Although I will say, eCommerce companies are doing more with customer reviews – like UrbanOutfitters.com which has active buyers leaving helpful comments about UO products. But generally this is not done. Here however you can comment, take a poll, see a live twitter feed, fan Deluxe on facebook – there is ample opportunity for interaction which is another signature of a blog.
