Our Heavenly Father Wants You
On September 7th
1813, the United States received the nick-
name "Uncle Sam." The name was given by U.S. soldiers in
the War of 1812. During that time, beef was supplied to the
Army by a man named Samuel Wilson. He would mark the
beef barrels with the letters "U.S." for United States. This is
when soldiers began to refer to the grub as "Uncle Sam’s" as a nod to Samuel
Wilson. "Uncle Sam" has since been popularized, and we envision him with his
white goatee and top hat, complete with red, white, and blue apparel. He has re-
cruited every American soldier from the Civil War to present day with the popular
poster, “Uncle Sam Wants You.”
Today, we have another family member seeking recruits greater than our
symbolic uncle. Our Heavenly Father is seeking soldiers to enlist in His spiritual
army. This military represents a spiritual army with a spiritual foe. "Finally, be
strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not
wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces
of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you
may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand
firm" (Ephesians 6:10-13).
Satan will do his best to destroy us and take our souls into his charge. We
must stand with the full armor of God. The belt of truth will hold in place its sword
of the Spirit and provide us with the breastplate of righteousness, which will pro-
duce the shield of Faith. With these at the ready, our feet will also be shod with
the readiness that the Gospel provides. Stand firm and see what things you can
be involved with for the Kingdom’s sake. Are there things you see that need to be
done for the Kingdom? Are there needs that are being unmet? What could you do
to help fill those needs? Have you prayed for this congregation and for our elders
as they lead us in this fight against Satan? What can you do to make a Heavenly
difference this week?

“ARE YOUR FEET BEAUTIFUL?”
“For whoever will call upon the name of the Lord
will be saved. How then shall they call upon Him in
whom they have not believed? And how shall they
believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And
how shall they hear without a preacher? And how
shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is
written, HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF
THOSE WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD
THINGS” (Rom. 10:13-15).
The feet are said to be beautiful because of the
message they bring. Perhaps Paul mentioned the feet
because so many of those who preached at that time
traveled by foot. The Battle of Marathon – a great bat-
tle was fought on the plains of Marathon in the year
490 B.C. between the Greeks and the Persians. If the
Persians won the Greeks would see their way of life
destroyed and themselves become slaves. The peo-
ple in Athens, 22 miles away from the battle, waited
anxiously to know the outcome. Were their warriors
able to stop the Persian advance? In the distance they
saw a runner bringing news from Marathon. The
man’s name was Pheidippides. He had run the 22
miles without stopping to bring the good news:
“Rejoice, we conquer.” And with those words he col-
lapsed and died. Imagine how welcome, how beautiful
to the people of Athens was the sight of that messen-
ger who brought the good news of victory. Paul here is
quoting from Isaiah 52:7 in regard to God’s promise
that Judah will be brought back from captivity in Baby-
lon and restored to their own land. The messenger is
seen in the distance running, an indication of the joyful
message he is bringing. Such a sight was indeed
beautiful to those Jews waiting for that very moment in
time.
We are to take the gospel into all the world! We
are the only people authorized to do it! The last words
of Jesus before leaving this world – “Go into all the
world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mk.
16:15). Ivan Stewart’s book on evangelism was titled
“Go ye” means “Go me.” That means you and I are
the ones commanded to go. I remember a night in Be-
lize City when a young Mormon asked the question
“Where do you get your authority for preaching what
you are preaching? I told him that authority comes
from the only One who can give such authority – Je-
sus Christ. Jesus said that “all authority has been
given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Mt. 20:18). It is
Jesus that has commanded us to go into all the world
and preach the gospel to every creature. That com-
mand was to those who were disciples of Jesus.
Therefore we are the ones commanded to go and are
given the authority to go.

Most of the Christian Bible stores will match
prices.
World Bible School has the best price. $5 for
the Bibles plus shipping and handling.

order. These are not the large print but are
good Bibles.
We are also in need of reading glasses
or you can donate money to buy Bibles and
glasses.
Food Pantry
We are running low on
certain items in the food pantry. The
Church receives 10 to 15 calls a day for
help.
We are in need of canned milk,
peanut butter, jelly, soups, stews,
canned meats, vienna sausage, baked
beans, and fruit. Please no boxed items
because it attracts rodents.
We are in need of 4 Thompson
Study Bibles for the men at the
Belize City Church of Christ. They
are out of print. Please check your
closets for any you might have to donate.
MINI CONVENTION

Brother Bennett baptizing a young man in
Belize City Church of Christ recently. He
uses the materials and Bibles that we take
to Belize.
Everyone who is going on the Belize Cam-
paign is required to attend the training class on
Wednesday night in the youth room.
