19. 19 Pune to attract 40,000 Crore investment in auto sector Pune, once a sedate city, known as pensioner's paradise has now transformed into a bustling metropolis, that not only attracted the IT investments, but now has become one of the major automotive hubs of the Country. Though other cities like Chennai is also staking claim to be the 'Detroit of India', given the investments the city attracts from auto majors, the description fits the bill to Pune than any other clusters in the country. The outskirts of Pune, especially locations like Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan and Talegaon are attracting huge investments from the automotive industry, though Pune is already home to auto giants such as Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto, right from the 1960s.
