Learning Sciences is a scientific understanding of learning as well as to engage in the
design and implementation of learning innovation, and improvement of teaching methodology
which is focus on cognitive-psychological, social-psychological foundations, and cultural
psychology of human learning, and also in the design of the learning environment.
According to Institute of Learning Sciences (ILS), Learning Sciences is a multi-disciplinary
field that focused on understanding how people learn and ways to enhance their learning.
Based on the Mandala model of Learning Sciences a structure consisting of two dimensions
each including two aspects.
1. The human dimension—psychological foundations and social cultural contexts.
2. The technological dimension—learning technologies and guidance.

2. Sociocultural dimensions is to explain how individual mental functioning closely with its
related cultural context, institutions and history. Therefore, the focus is on the role of sociocultural perspective of individual participation in social interaction and the activity of organized
culture play in impelling the development of psychology.
Furthermore, the use of technological dimensions in appropriate contexts in education
can add value in teaching and learning, by enhancing the effectiveness of learning, or by adding
a dimension to learning that was not previously available. ICT may also be a significant
motivational factor in students’ learning, and can support students’ engagement with
collaborative learning.
When the two dimensions are integrated in the learning sciences, it was a program that
complements each other. This combination covers the whole of the need of the lessons in order
to make the learning more meaningful.
