5 Positive Ways to Overcome Adversity

Overcoming adversity within any business setting is a challenge. That adversity
can come from so many sources - poor management, poor ownership, outside
market conditions, employees who do not get along, or complications within day-
to-day operations. When adversity occurs, it is up to the management team to find
a way through the complication and to the finish line with whatever task is on the
table. How can you find a positive way to get through this complication? It may
seem like the problem is too large to scale, but there are various solutions
available to help you to manage in a time of adverse conditions. David Kiger offers
some key tips in this area.
Acknowledge the Problem
How can you not acknowledge something is wrong? It may not seem like a way to
overcome the problem, but sometimes just realizing there is tension and adversity
present is necessary. For example, many business managers like to push things to
the side to deal with later - when there is more time, focus, and ability. However,
keeping your people working in adverse conditions does not ensure the best return
on your investment nor does it produce the right quality of finished product for
your consumer. You need to note the problem and take the time, often times
immediately, to find some way through it.
Surround Yourself with Positive Motivators
There is no simple solution to all areas of concern. In every situation, you need to
work out a solution by focusing on the problem and working to develop it.
However, you can come to that conclusion in a more effortless manner when you
have positive motivators surrounding you throughout the process. Be selective in
who you bring into the problem. Not only do you want to use the skills of the best
problem solvers you have, but you need the person in the right emotional state of
mind, with the best attitude, and with a positive outlook. Other people are simply
going to add too much stress and complication to an already complex problem.
Formulate Solutions Using Tech
In some business aspects, you need options. You need to know what all of your
options are now so that you can determine which is the best way through the
adversity. It can be hard for a human to come up with every scenario based on
accurate details. However, technology can. For example, supply chain
management tools are growing in value in terms of their ability to take complex
data and model various solutions from it. When your adversity is complex and
relates to such components of your organization, it can be valuable to sit down
with those tools and to formulate a dozen plans. Then, you have options to choose
from and backups available to you should those problems fail.
Put Yourself in the Right Frame of Mind
Still worried and overwhelmed by what you are up against? David Kiger has a tip.
Adversity isn't always something you can stop worrying about when it occurs. For
many business owners and managers, the most important thing is to be able to
put yourself in the right frame of mind so you can make the best decisions for
your team. This means stepping out of the box. It means going outside for a long
walk to think. It means doing something fun to stop thinking for a few minutes so
you can gain a fresh perspective. It also means taking the time to understand
when you simply need to walk away.
Invest In Yourself
When adversity is here to stay, such as key changes in your business operations and methods, you may need to stop what
you are doing and start focusing on improving yourself. For example, perhaps your company's business model has failed
and you need a new focus or direction to take it. That means getting into the environment and learning about the options
available to you and to your company. What's essential here is to realize that sometimes you need to have the right mentors
on your team to help you through and other times you need to become that expert.
Adversity impacts every business at some point. The way you handle it really defines how successful your company will be
when it is in your hands. These positive steps can not only help your business to overcome adversity but also to push
through it and learn from it, sometimes even growing from the experience in a direction you could not have otherwise
planned. Take the time to embrace these challenges and find a solution that seems to fit your business's needs says, David
