1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups ?
By Cynthia M.
2. The social groups I have represented
I have represented teenagers and young
adults who are fans of RnB music. I avoided
the dominant stereotype that, teenagers
and young adults like to party and drink
alcohol, I represented them as people who
are relaxed, fun and carefree. this is shown
through the type of font I used. I also
avoided using any font that resembled
graffiti because this is a dominant
stereotypical view that young people are
into graffiti and are all vandals. I also
choose a formal mode of address to
challenge these negative views on young
people.
3. How my images reflect my representations
Through my images I think I have provided a
alternative view to how teenagers are seen .
The emergent ideology on how teenagers
dress, is that they dress provocatively in short
skirts or tight clothing and this idea
corresponds with the club scene.
I used a balanced ratio of text to images and I
chose to do so because my questionnaire
results showed that everyone thought it would
be more suitable for and RnB magazine but I
also agreed with this because it challenged the
emergent idea that young of nowadays aren't
well educated and would probably respond
more to images than text.
