2. Treatment
1. Correct hypoalbuminemia:
• fall in serum albumin of 1gm/dl = fall of 0.8mg/dl
in total calcium
EX:
• Present Total Ca: 8mg/dl
• Present Serum Albumin: 2.5gm/dl
• Normal S. Albumin: 4gm/dl
• Correction = (4-2.5)x(0.8) = 1.2
• Corrected Total Ca= (8+1.2)mg/dl= 9.2mg/dl

3. 2. Ca Gluc 10% soln of 10ml/amp: 1-2amp slow IV
push(10-15min) w/ cardiac monitoring then incorp
1 amp Ca Gluc to present IV fluids
3. Chronic treatment of hypocalcemia:
a) Ca Carb 500mg BD-TDS
b) Vit D supplement: Calcitriol 0.25mcgcap OD-BD
4. Tx hypomagnesemia
5. Severe/recurrent sx: continuous infusion of
Dextrose soln w/ elemental Ca concentr 15mg/L
over 4-6 hrs
